The study investigated the effects of study habit on the academic performance of students’ using some selected senior secondary schools in Ijebu-Ode Local Government area of Ogun State, Nigeria as a case study. Two hundred (200) students were randomly selected from five senior secondary schools in the area. What is the best online survey tool for academic research?

The best online survey tool will depend on your needs. I've used/tried the following. The Survey MonkeySoGoSurveySurveyGizmoQualtricsSurveyMonkeyThe one I used first for simple survey data collection was SurveyMonkey-- this was about 5 years ago. It worked fine. Back in the day I think you could get a monthly subscription, but my memory might be wrong. The plans and pricing are here: SurveyMonkey Plans and Pricing .SoGoSurveyAbout 2 years ago while on sabbatical, I considered getting research going online and was able to get a free academic license through SoGoSurvey. Compared to my experience with SurveyMonkey, it at a lot more features at a better price. However, I found that it wasn't necessarily intuitive, and it doesn't do Likert Scales well. As an example, take the attitudes toward psychology as a science survey. As you can see in the image above, you have to repeat the Likert scale after each item. This is a PAIN. Attitude scales are used a lot in psychological research. So SoGoSurvey points loses points in the intuitive department and for not having the matrix-grid format I want/prefer. But their customer support is fine and reasonably fast. From what I can tell, they no longer offer a free academic license, but do offer an academic discount. To get that discount you have to put their logo on your college/university's webpage. That was a hassle at my university. Your experience might vary. Anyway, information regarding their academic discount can be found here: SoGoSurvey - Create Online Questionnaire.Qualtrics and SurveyGizmoAbout a month ago, I started researching other online survey options. I found a number of "the top 10 online survey options" lists. Two that were consistently on a lot of those lists were Qualtrics and SurveyGizmo. Both have short (1 or 2 week) trials. Both met a unique requirement of being able to time responses (from point of seeing the question on the screen to answering that question and moving on to the next item). I signed up for trial versions of both. Both offer academic discounts and both have easier to use/less frustrating interfaces than SoGoSurvey. In addition, both make it so that surveys can be completed on desktop, laptop, or mobile (iOS or android0 devices).Qualtrics and SurveyGizmo can do Likert Scales in a Matrix Grid format. The following image of a Likert scale matrix grid is from SurveyGizmo.Qualtrics touts their research suite but you have to call for pricing. They have different packages and prices based on the number of responses you want/need per survey: Online Survey Software Tools and Solutions | QualtricsSurveyGizmo Pricing/Plans can be found here: The Best Survey Software at the Best PriceThe nice thing about SurveyGizmo Pricing is that you can get either monthly plans or annual ones for any level (Basic, Professional, Premier, or Enterprise). The academic discount for SurveyGizmo is 25%.We went with SurveyGizmo because of the ability to do a monthly rather than an annual commitment. Given the research we are considering,we might convert to an annual plan in the future.Based on my needs, and experience, I think Qualtrics and SurveyGizmo are both solid options. To answer the question of which one is best for academic research, you need to ask yourself what you want to be able to accomplish in your research, the type(s) of questions that you need to ask, the number of respondents, and so on-- then pick the one that best fits your needs and budget.Note: I am not an employee of any online survey vendor.
