Firstly i would like to inform you one thing that North Bengal Medical College and Hospital is in “siliguri” not in darjeeling as the name suggests(siliguri is in district Darjeeling), so don't expect snowfall or harsh cold in winters. (As AIQ students assumes before coming here) ⚕️NBMCH is the largest and also the sole healthcare facility in the North Bengal region of West Bengal. The campus is huge with a huge patient load from North bengal region and from Nepal also!The college and hospital buildings, spread over a sprawling campus of 161 acres (0.65 km²), are connected by very long corridors which total a length of 2.6 km.-The main gate of NBMCHI am from AIQ ( Kota, Rajasthan ) and currently in 1st year , completed more than a year here (due to pandemic still in 1st year) , and i am an hostelite .COLLEGE:Established in 1968Affiliated to West Bengal University of Health and Sciences(Total of 200 MBBS seats)There are total of 6 lecture theatres, four with capacity of almost 180–200 students, and one with capacity of 250 students and the other one with capacity of 400 students.Lecture theatres are good and are well equipped with ACs and projectors. Teachers are good, but if you dont understand Bengali language then you are going to face some problems related with language in the starting , but after some time you will get comfortable! Overall academies in college is average and you have to study most of the topics by your own. (although seniors will help you),And seminar room , demonstration rooms, dissection hall (with enough number of cadavers) , laboratories of various departments are present,There's a college auditorium (Uttaran) for seminars, convocations, CMEs , etcA multi purpose hall for special occasions is presentEnough resources are available in the college to help you study and there is a library in the college.Its mandatory to be in formals during college hours in college , with your white coat.For PG entrance coaching there is DAMS sky near the college27 MD and 6 MS seats are in NBMCH-Lecture Theatre(LT-250)- Auditorium (uttaran)-Inside auditorium (uttaran)-Academic blockFor sports there is badminton court, a play ground and a volleyball court-Play ground (evening Cricket)And every year around September college fest is organized that is called ‘PLASMA' which is just awesome❤ ( i am not adding photos , just don't want to spoil the fun for upcoming batches )College and hospital are in same campus.College canteen(BDC) : food is average.There's no Rural Service bond after MBBS.College fees: 9000 RsHOSTELS:All the hostels are within the college campus.There are total 3 boys hostel(JBH,NBH,SBH) and 3 girls hostel (NGH,KGH,LH) ,hostel for housestaffs & PGTs hostels.1st to 3rd year boys reside in JBH (junior boys hostel), each room has 5 students in 1st year (of same batch).1st and 2nd year girls reside in NGH (new girls hostel), each room has 4 students in 1st year(of same batch) [ few rooms are in LH for 2nd year girls]Condition of NGH is better than JBH.For safety of girls , there is guard outside NGH, And there is fixed hostel timings for 1st year girls.Hostel timings are also fixed for first year boys. 😉😉Hostel mess: Each hostel has its seprate mess with almost same menu every day, basically food is not good. (in both boys and girls hostel) (If you are from bengal then may be you can cope up with it ), but you can get good food..how? You will discover this when you will come here!-In picture: NBH(NEW BOYS HOSTEL)-In picture: JBH (JUNIOR BOYS HOSTEL)-In picture LH (LADIES HOSTEL)Seniors are helpful, senior- junior interaction is okayish. (Varies from person to person)There are many students who don’t live in hostels. If you dont want to stay in hostel, you can take PGs there are many PGs available near the college.Hostel fees : 12 Rs per monthNEAR COLLEGE:There are cafes just outside the college and a amul parlor , you can access ATMs easily. Be careful on roads toto drivers are rashless , but are helpful for travelling short distance and are not so expensive, and you will get some beautiful views of Darjeeling hills.-📍DudhiaThere are basically 3 malls in siliguri, 'city centre’ that is nearest to college compared to other malls, ‘cosmos' & ‘the vega circle mall' and there is ‘the planet mall' which has so many good restaurants. You can find good restaurants near 'sevoke more' (placed in siliguri) and Hong kong market is also near sevoke more.-City centreFor movies INOX is there in city centre and vega circle mall and other cinema halls are also there.FOR TRAVELING:Bagdogra International Airport (IXB) - 12 Km from collegeNJP railway station - 7 Km from collegeNBMC is one of the good medical colleges of west bengal, but If you have options better than NBMC then choose those.{ After colleges of kolkata, first preference is either NBMC, BURDWAN, BANKURA, from the point of view of a student from wb)Cutoff- 2019AIQ : 9.5K AIR [ 593 marks ] ,SQ : 29K AIR [ 537 marks ]Cutoff- 2020AIQ : 11.5K AIR [ 620 marks ] ,SQ : 28K AIR [ 584 marks]Many more things are there in NBMC , you will experience them when you will join NBMC.(our Freshers performance, do watch guys)All the bestThank you !Do upvote !! ⏫

There are more than 100 answers to this question, which should give any new medico who has just entered a college the diversity when it comes to books. The NEET era where everyone read NCERT is over — now you have to find books that suit you.My university exams finally ended yesterday, so I'm free till second year (officially) starts , so here are my two cents in this debate —AnatomyDissection is the key here. You can read all the books in the world but remember that visualisation matters more.Gross Anatomy —Vishram SinghHands down, it is the best Indian book currently. Diagrams are the best, Clinical aspect is well covered as well.2. Gray's Anatomy for StudentsThe reference book , but I feel you can read HFN from it exclusively. Though Snells is better for extremities , overall I would say Gray's is sufficient as a textbook in itself.Embryology—LangmanYou can use it exclusively, most of the lectures in my college had it as a reference for the images. The theory is crisp and lucid. This was one book I enjoyed reading a lot.2. Vishram SinghIt's a good alternative, and the diagrams are good enough to reproduce in exams.Neuroanatomy —SnellsIt's lucid, clinically relevant and has beautiful questions that take care of all aspects. What more could one ask for?2. Vishram SinghAgain it has good diagrams for exams, so might be a good alternative.Histology—The only thing I read was our college journal , though during lockdown I had time to read some part of Wheaters. We used to get a copy of DiFiore during tutorials which I used to just flip through.General Anatomy —BDC handbook — One only reads general anatomy at the start of the year and before exams.Atlas — I feel Netters is sufficient enough, though Thiems is a good alternative.2. Physiology—Now here I feel there isn't a single good resource , certain topics are better in certain books but here's what I read —Guyton and Hall — It's been made a must by most universities, and though it's the most widely used one, I found that Costanzo >> Guyton.Ganong — It's a must read book, especially for CVS, GIT and CNS. And if you are a quizzer, then this is your go to book.Costanzo — It's the most balanced book for physiology in my opinion. Also it's a book which you can read entirely in a week so it does help in quick revision.Apart from these for Practical Physiology I used GK Pal and the university journal. For exams in my university a book called VD Joshi is followed a lot, so I read that as well.Now coming to reference books, from whatever I read I feel Berne and Levy is the best reference book out there. Boron is a good alternative, but I preferred Berne and Levy whenever I wanted to read something more.3. Biochemistry —People might tell you that it's a boring subject but honestly it's very interesting provided you read it with the right approach, especially focussing on the clinical aspect.Lippincott —I read this almost completely and it was the go to book throughout. Amino Acid metabolism and Molecular biology are probably the best in it.2. Satyanarayana —The book to read a month before your exams , it's decent enough and can help you score well if that's your aim.I tried to read Harper but couldn't really complete it. Also Vasudevan is a good book, especially the special techniques and miscellaneous topics for a better understanding.Coming to video resources , there are many but the ones I used areMitesh DaveViva Voce of AnatomyBlue Link, University of MichiganArmando HasudanganLife in the WombDr NajeebBiochemistry by Dr Rajesh JambhulkarIn a nutshell this was probably it. Though one thing is that we had a lot of time (almost 3 months extra) due to lockdown. So it's better to find your groove and prefer the ones you find easy to read. Don't blindly read what others say — find what works for you. And it's the beginning of a long journey, but it'll be extremely satisfying if you play your cards well.Peace out ✌️

Thanks for A2A.Well, you are in first year,right? See I am an intern preparing for NEET PG. Let me share with you my experience till now. I did not prepare for PG im the first year. But today I consider all the first year subjects as my strong subjects. I believe right now u should focus on studying the first year subjects and keep revising them thoroughly. You only have one year and the subjects are very vast. Rather thab reading only imps, try to read most of the topics. Making your first year stronger by focussing on theory and doing frequent revisions will not only help you in scoring well in your first year exams but will also help when u are preparing for PG, as you wont need much recall. This is what I am experiencing right now.Moreover, if u really wish to do MCQs, well, you can, whenever u feel bored with theory, but I would suggest u to relax a bit. This is just the first year. You have many more years of toiling in MBBS. And you can even focus on MCQs after the university exams or in early days of 2nd MBBS.Hope this helps!All the Best!
