You don’t plan to raise the rent, do you? You already rented the apartment for what is probably its market rate, and even if not, for an amount you found acceptable. The baby is not adding expense for you, the apartment hasn’t been improved, terms of the contract are not changeable during its effective period without legal cause or mutual agreement.I don’t know CA law, but in most states, adding a baby or even an adult to a one bedroom apartment is perfectly OK. Some require notification of additional children to be reported to the landlord and more require reporting of an adult or adults. Some require nothing, but why not add a requirement to your leases for such reporting. It is good for you and your tenants to know who is authorized to live there.Keep in mind, too, that Quora advice is not the kind of law CA or any other state wishes you to comply with, and violations can be expensive, even punitive for you (not for this but for more serious infractions). For you own protection, as well as fairness to tenants, please get a lawyer or learn the law.

Awesome!!!We adopted our first, had our second the “old fashioned way,” and are expecting our third in July. We also adopted an infant and were at the hospital when she was born.Our birth mom lived a thousand miles away, but coincidentally only two hours away from my parents, so when we took her from the hospital, we stayed in a hotel for one night, then went to my parents house for a few days, and then made the two-day drive home.That first night in the hotel room was… horrible. She screamed all. Night. Long. We wondered what we’d gotten ourselves into. But she mellowed out into a normal newborn routine over the next few days. Being with family really helped during those first few days because they were able to take some of the load so we could get some extra sleep.Our adoption was interesting because we didn’t get notification from our birth mom until 6 weeks before she was due. And because we’d just moved to a new state, we had to redo our home study, and hadn’t even started it yet. So we had to get our whole home study done in 5 weeks, which we thankfully were able to.The whole experience was surreal, but even more so when we finally got her home. We didn’t really struggle with the basics of newborn care, because between the two of us we have like 30 nieces and nephews and were familiar with the general idea.Those first few days when it was just us are a blur. We settled into the routine of sleep deprivation, constant feedings, and even more constant diaper changes quickly. And of course every spare moment in between was spent holding her while she slept or cuddling her while she cooed.There was no extra cool factor because we’d adopted her, because she instantly became our baby and we rarely thought about it, except to express gratitude to and for our birth mom. It definitely was nice that my wife wasn’t recovering from child birth. Made it much easier.We were at Target when she was a week old, so she was super tiny, and everyone was gushing over how cute she was and how my wife looked amazing for just having given birth. We told people she was a yoga instructor.
