If you successfully registered for the annual Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery on the US State Department’s Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website, you were provided with a long Confirmation Number as part of the registration process, which you should have printed out or written down and kept in a safe place for use later when the DV-Lottery results are made available. Starting in the month of May, after the DV-Lottery is held, you can go back to the E-DV website to the DV Entrant Status Check webpage, click on the Check Status button, and follow the instructions, which include: entering your Confirmation Number, name, date of birth and the Authentication Code (located under the place where you enter your date of birth), and then you will press the Submit button to view your DV-Lottery status. You will either see a brief message informing you that you were not selected or you will see an official letter from the US State Department that has a bar code and a long Case Number, informing you that you were selected for further processing in the Diversity Visa Program.
