A startup is predicated on public market investment. Which means everybody is an employee. Some employee’s financial interest will be better aligned with the goals of the investors, and some will be at-will contractually bound.If the eventual object of the exercise is to grow the business into a corporate publicly funded entity, then everybody involved will eventually be an employee.If two partners incorporate a business, then both partners to the business are shareholders. It follows that they are both employees of the business.Even a sole shareholder will be an employee for the simple fact that incorporating a business, results in a separation between the shareholder and the management of the incorporated entity. Limiting personal liability ensures that separation.If your six year old daughter sets up a lemon stand on your front lawn, she might well qualify as an entrepreneur. Just make sure your local municipality does not find out about it… They might just make you liable for regulatory breach.I think the future will redefine everybody in terms of internally contracted employee, or externally contracted agent. It will all boil down to the liability the corporation will want to assume.An Uber contractor will of course be free to switch to Lyft if the terms are better. The ability to determine what’s in your best interest will of course be bound by the options you are able to negotiate, individually and perhaps collectively.It used to be that drivers for hire, were a government regulated class. Now they are a privately regulated class. Or both systems will co-exist in some defined manner.Of course if the market for taxi medallions is purposefully and artificially limited, the cost of said medallions makes those that cannot afford said medallions contractual agents of those that do. Independent operator means exactly that, which is no different for somebody owning their truck, and contractually delivering trailers for whoever is willing to pay a higher per mile fee.And with that its the gig economy: its whatever you can negotiate for your knowledge and time. There will be exclusionary contracts, at will contracts, and contracted agent contracts, some exclusive some not.A couple hundred years ago you could buy yourself a government office, and make your money back in due course by creating impediments to free commerce. The modern equivalent would be to buy your self a franchise, granting you a geographic monopoly over the delivery of a particular good or service.How work gets compensated is no longer subject to traditional captive employment.What’s for sure is that just showing up and expecting to get paid will no longer be an option.Entrepreneurship and employment will be defined by how far you are able to personally define your contribution, and personally profit from it.Whether that is good or bad, would be a judgement call nobody is prepared to make today, some will profit and some will be at the mercy of the elements.Thanks for the ask, always a pleasure.

There are MANY private contracts offered by and negotiated with the airlines that are not available on online booking engines. Only through a travel agency that has established contracts. Student fares, humanitarian fares, consolidator fares, and even fares for those adopting internationally. Often these fares are refundable and changeable, in addition to being less expensive. Last time I checked, 56% of all travel is still booked through a travel agent. Who’da thought?Hope this helps!! Mike

To be honest, highly unlikely. My sister, Gloria Keverne wrote a 500,000-word novel, which I edited, that became an international bestseller ("A Man Cannot Cry") in the mid-1980s. It took her 20 years to write, as it entailed a great deal of research. She got a legendary New York agent, Julian Bach, and it was sold to the first publisher, William Morrow, to which it was shown, something unheard of in the publishing world. No rejections! According to her contract, Gloria had to cut her story in half, but cheated a bit, and in those days before computer "word counts", was able to get away with closer to 300,000 words. She had to admit that it was much improved by the cutting. Even back then, publishers took a big risk buying an epic novel from an unknown author. With the advent of the E-book and affordable self-publishing, the number of traditional publishers in New York has reduced drastically, so I imagine it would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to sell it or even get it read. My suggestion would be to cut it yourself to a reasonable length. (Every writer's horror - it's called "murdering your little darlings"). Having a book simply as a self-published E-book has not got the same satisfying feel to it, as having it in book form (just my humble opinion.) I am also the author of epic novels and mine are all around the 300,000-mark. One was 340,000 and my agent told me it had to be cut. I was determined not to lose stuff I loved, and managed to avoid that, and it definitely improved the pace. It's a hard but necessary evil! Hope that helps!
