PDF Editor FAQ

In US, Why is the photo ID requirement considered a voter suppression tactic?

It’s not the ID requirement that’s the problem. If USA was like Europe and have a national identity card that was cheap, ubiquitous if not mandatory to have (it is in many places) and easy enough to obtain the photo ID requirement would be a non-issue.German national ID card, the same basic design is used in all member states of the EUHowever the point of a photo ID at polls never was to prevent voter fraud. The voter registration process deals with those issues, it would be nigh-on impossible to commit voter fraud of any statistical significance by impersonating a registred voter at the polls. If you know of someone who you know is registred and where and you know for a certain s/he will not vote (i.e. they’re in coma) and know with absolute certainty none of the poll workers know him or of him and are able to convincingly fake their signature you might be able to commit a federal crime and fake … one vote.Florida in 2000 hinged on over 500 votes, good luck getting that many in a single election and not be found. However if you make voting a little more difficult than it already is by demanding a photo ID that you make difficult to get if your vote is undesired (usually a minority voter) because you’re likely to cast the vote for the ‘wrong’ party (usually Democrats), then the demand for the photo ID becomes a problem. Not necessarily for you personally - you can be a good citizen and wait in a line for five hours to get the forms you need, then take two days off to fill them in at the appropriate places, travel to an office five hours away to pay the fee and get your stamp, send it back all within the same week, then go stand in another line for eight more hours to get the voter ID - but will all of your friends and family do the same? Some might, others won’t. If the ‘desirables’ can do the same with a simple online application that takes them ten minutes at most then their prefferable candidate has a clear advantage when it comes to voter participation. That’s why voter ID laws are so controversial in the US, voter suppression is the whole point of the requirement. Personally I’d just create a national voter ID that can be obtained alongside voter registration (among other places) and be done with it. One less issue to worry about, one less issue to rally the faithful, one less way the election can be manipulated down the line.

Why is there no ID card in the UK?

Most recently, ID cards were ready to be introduced in the UK by the last Labour government as part of the Identity Cards Act 2006. [1] A whole lot of money was spent on the scheme with various trials having taken place, before nationwide introduction. The Lib-Dem/Conservative coalition repealed this in 2010, however.Prior to this, it was actually the Conservatives who were most enthusiastic about the idea, back when John Major was Prime Minister, but nothing came of it once Labour were in power in 1997. While in opposition, Tony Blair was never keen on ID cards as it was always thought to be a costly exercise for no major gain.- A Specimen National ID Card, with Alan Johnson, Home Secretary in 2009September 11, changed all that, though. The threat of terrorism and also the increasing incidents of identity theft meant that David Blunket, the then Home Secretary, needed policies that showed their Party to be 'doing something' about these threats, and the proposals were back on the table.Of course, the 2010 election brought in a Liberal Democrat/Conservative coalition and since the Lib-Dems saw these cards as an attack on our civil liberties and the Conservatives were more than happy to have a dig at the previous government's spendthrift ways, the scheme was halted, despite having already cost millions if not Billions! [2]Personally, I think the Conservatives would have been championing something like an ID card had they not been in coalition with a party that is very strong on Civil Liberties and had it not have been already introduced by the previous Labour government; they seem to love the idea of snooping on unsuspecting individuals as a means to protect us from the big bad world. [3]Moreover, there is already an active scheme (in beta) called 'Gov.UK Verify', described by some as an 'Online ID card', which will store personal data online and allow easy filing of tax returns, applications for driving licences and other government systems. The scheme is voluntary, though, and has had a lot of consultation with privacy groups. [4]Notes[1] A-Z of legislation: Identity Cards Act 2006[2] Identity cards scheme will be axed 'within 100 days'[3] 7 reasons why we still don't need a Snooper's Charter[4] Identity Assurance and GOV.UK Verify

Why doesn't the US have a national ID card?

Well, we do already have documents that serve this purpose. If you need to prove citizenship, you can use your birth certificate, or a passport. A passport is also fairly decent proof you are who you say you are, assuming you aren’t Jason Bourne. If you need to prove you are who you say you are and you don’t have a passport, your state-issued driver’s license is a really good choice. These are, by the way, the equivalent of a national ID card. Let me explain.I don’t drive (anymore), I carry a State-issued ID card. When I last went to renew my card, the nice officer behind the desk gave me a piece of paper saying my card renewal had been applied for, and I was waiting for the new one. The piece of paper was meant to tide me over until the new one arrived in the mail. I asked him why the new card wasn’t just being handed to me hot out of the machine like always.Because, he said and notice the absence of quotation marks because I am approximating as it’s been a while, now the applications have to go to DHS for review. Once DHS says grace over it, it comes back to the State, where your physical ID card is made and then you get your card in the mail. So now, in my state, and I presume in other states as well, all the new state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards come in the mail, after DHS has checked us out and knows we are who we say we are. This was actually a brilliant work-around for the public opposition to the drive for standardized national ID cards. We have the functional equivalent of national ID cards, but they look like a regular driver’s license, so no one gets upset.

Feedbacks from Our Clients

I like how CocoDoc gives you the ability to sign documents and contracts quickly and easily. I also like that you can scribble in your own initials and signature. And that you can either send documents within CocoDoc, or download them and email them yourself. I've also tested how this all works for a client you're sending docs to, and it seems to work great for them. It's also handy that as the vendor you can have CocoDoc send your clients reminders to sign a contract. Of course, CocoDoc also works great for anything you have to sign electronically.
