While on an assignment at Temple University Hospital, which is a teaching hospital, I noted “The Case of the Week” on the radiology department billboard.It was a plain x-ray of an infant, with what was plainly a gassy abdomen. I halted and reviewed the film and my eyes teared up. Bad enough that much of the intestines were gassy, it was also apparent that a section had decompressed and the abdomen itself had gas in it, suggesting intestinal rupture.The chief radiologist happened to walk by and noted my viewing the film and reaction and asked me what I thought.I explained the above and asked, two words, “Two hours?”, to which he sadly confirmed.A four day old child had suffered from undiagnosed imperforate anus, with no fistula formation, leaving the intestine completely blocked. By the time he was presented for diagnostic imaging, his intestine had ruptured. He survived for two hours after the image was taken.Doctor had me present the case, as none of his residents had managed to accurately diagnose what was wrong with the child. That caused a number of residents to redouble their studies, as I was only an SF medic.

How I am coping with a chronic disorder, as well as a treatment plan.It was a little jarring to read his notes when I was going through a high stress period, but I didn't disagree. The notes also included my improvement, which made me feel better.I would not have grabbed my file and just started flipping pages. That is a betrayal of the trust that should exist between doctors and their patients.A lot of doctors don't like the idea of sharing their notes with patients However, patients who have participated in OpenNotes want to see the practice spread, according to a survey by Harvard University researchers.Among the reasons they support it is that adult children who are caring for elderly parents are able to share the doctors notes with their siblings so that the family as a whole can make informed decisions about their parents care.The researchers also found that people without college educations liked the practice as well.Google OpenNotes for more information on the project.

Doctors can be approached by making appointment through UMS portal or directly by visiting the block. There are also blood donation camps organised by the doctors in LPU, along with that any specialists when available in the hospital, the message is passed to the students through UMS and LPU touch such as eye specialists, veterinary doctors are also present here.LPU also run Applied Medical Sciences courses such as Physiotherapy , Pharmacy and Medical Lab Technology courses.
