Affordable and accessible enough to hold in conjunction with a higher-deductible health insurance policy (which are cheaper in cost by nature). They're pretty conprehensive plans and after a compression fracture to my L4, I can attest first hand that the claims were paid quickly, in full, and directly to me.

Are payments from Aflac taxable?
I always told my clients that they should talk to a CPA or other tax professional, as I really cannot give tax advice…That said…My understanding is that benefits paid that are in excess of costs could be taxable. For example, an accident claim would pay $120 for the initial accident plus any additional amounts for x-rays, the nature of the injury, etc… Let's say all told Aflac sends you a check for $450.A tax professional will help you identify expenses (copays, deductibles) plus any losses you may have experienced due to the accident. Take the $450, subtract all expenses and losses, and the remainder very well could be taxable.Usually it's the cancer, ICU, and heart attack/stroke policies that pay large amounts - into the ten's of thousands of dollars - where a tax professional really shows their value.One final word, this time on disability. Aflac's short term policy is usually sold on an after-tax basis (Cafeteria Plans and IRS section 125) and thus is a tax-free benefit. In some very rare cases a disability policy is sold pre-tax, (deducted from your payroll before - or prior - to taxes being calculated) and thusly, the benefit will be taxable as you used untaxed dollars to pay for your policy. I always recommended after-tax as the payment option for disability plans.I hope this helps.
