PDF Editor FAQ

The USA has "Karens". What do other countries have?

Myanmar and Thailand have….Karens.Yes, there is an actual ethnic group, called the Karen people, who reside in southeastern Myanmar and northwestern Thailand. The Karen speak a variety of languages, collectively known as the “Karenic languages.” The video below is a sample of one of these languages — “Karen Pwo.”Within Myanmar, Karen territory is known for being the site of one of the world’s longest running civil wars — that between the government of Myanmar and an alphabet soup of Karen rebel groups, most prominently the Karen National Union. Long before “Karens” became a thing in the US, the Karen plight was probably brought to Americans’ attention for the first time thanks to the fourth Rambo movie, which was about Rambo rescuing a bunch of white Christian missionaries who were abducted by the Burmese military while trying to provide aid to the Karen people.Because of its not-so-friendly depiction of the Burmese military, Rambo IV was banned in Myanmar but is said to have been a morale booster for the real-life Karen rebels, who adopted Rambo’s motto, “Live for nothing or die for something” as their own motto.Karen rebels as depicted in Rambo IV. Clearly they aren’t your speak-to-the-manager kind of people. An interesting question would be: what do Karen people think about “Karens” in the US?

Why would you want to live in the USA?

One morning in Belgium, as I was riding a bus to work, a Belgian who wanted to practice his English conversation skills observed that it was a rainy morning in Belgium and asked me (an American), "Do you know if it is also raining in the US today?" I was able to answer confidently, without doing any checking, that it most definitely WAS raining somewhere in the US at that precise moment. The vast size of the US is frequently underestimated by those who are used to the concept of smaller countries, as are our myriad topographical features. I noted that someone else who answered this question mentioned that the USA is mostly flat … but those in Colorado or Tennessee would like a moment for rebuttal. The beautiful scenery demonstrated through numerous photos posted by a different Quora member is only a small sampling of our truly breathtaking natural wonders. We have incredible state and national parks which boast picnic, boating, swimming, hiking, camping, geo-caching, biking, horseback riding, golfing, etc. for our own citizens - and welcome visitors - to enjoy, and they are easily accessed throughout the country. Then, of course, there are our busy cities and our small towns, our incredible variety of farms and our unparalleled access to food of every kind. Our history as a melting pot has provided us with a rich sampling of restaurants highlighting the foods of other countries and cultures. We have no ancient palaces and churches from hundreds of years ago, but we have housing of every size and description, and there are at least two different houses of worship in even the smallest of towns because we have all (mostly) peacefully decided to let one another agree to disagree as to which religion is preferable to the many, many, many others that are practiced here.We are right now engaged in the worst political division that I can recall in my lifetime, but we are in no danger of a coup, military or otherwise. Those of us who are disappointed in our current leader can immediately begin looking forward to our next election, which is never more than four years away. We feel a huge sense of pride and confidence in our military, as well as our first responders (police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians). That is not to say that there aren't pockets of discontent and discord, and many of us have been deservedly disappointed and let down by some flawed people in positions of trust. We have some bad judges and policemen who accept bribes and shoot innocent people in stressful situations. And yes, we are far too often let down and even embarrassed by our politicians in even the highest offices. But, through it all, most of us are able to recognize that this is a very small percentage of our population. Most of us are honest, hardworking and generous. A huge number of innovations and inventions have roots here. I haven't done the math, but I think we probably have immigrants from more places than any other country in the world. Our medical care isn't free, but it is widely available and there are an awfully lot of people who travel to the US to take advantage of our top notch practitioners.Do we have problems? Good heavens, YES. No doubt you read about them every day, because we live in a country where it's against the law to prohibit reporters from writing about them. We have hate groups, mental cases, hungry children, homeless citizens, and just about every other problem you'd find anywhere else. We have lax gun regulations and far too many people shooting at innocent targets. We have insufferable "stars" who are famous for being famous, and we have some tourists whose actions overseas make me cringe in embarrassment. But please don't ever make the mistake of thinking that these negative things tell the main story of who we are, because they do not.I have spent years in Belgium and in Japan, and feel privileged to have been able to experience both of these wonderful countries and their welcoming people. I hope that nobody reading this response thinks that I am denigrating other countries in comparison to my own. If I were Belgian or Japanese, I would be justifiably proud. But very few countries get such widespread and frequent analysis around the world today as the USA does, and it is unfortunately not our best features or people who make the news. Please don't let false impressions keep you from visiting us and seeing for yourself. Rent a car and travel out of New York and Orlando and see some of our small towns. Camp out in one of our parks, and strike up conversations in a diner. You may not decide to move here, but I think you'll find it isn't such a bad prospect as you may have been unfairly led to believe. And, if you do decide to join us, there's still plenty of space for you!

Does India own any secret military research locations like Area 51?

There are various Indian secure locations, some of them are listed below.Pokhran Test Ranges. Pokhran TR is secured by more than 5 Indian agencies working independently or in tandem with other agencies. The outer perimeter is secured by special BSF commandos while Indian Army secures the facility. Overall security Is maintained by RAW and MI officers. There is also a COIN team to check any leak of information from within. Various ISI spies have been caught trying to get soil or nail samples of the scientists working there. A CIA agent too was rumoured to be caught.Wheeler's Island. India's missile testing base. India's strategic nuclear missiles and tactical missiles, all are tested here. From Agni 5 to BrahMos, everything takes shape here.Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Of the 572 islands in AANI, only 34 are open to public. AANI also hosts India's top secret Tried Service command.Trishul Airbase. Trishul Airbase in Bareilly is the largest underground airbase in Asia. This facility was so secure that it housed the MiG-25 fox bats which were bought under complete secrecy. The acknowledgement of Foxbats happened only on the day they were retired. Imagine an airbase so secure that you don't see which fighter jet flies out of it.The thing about secret facilities is that you never know it exists. You might be living in a desert somewhere in Rajasthan and there would be a nuclear missile silo meters away from your house which you never will know about. I hope people do not add to it :D
