It depends on where the rental property is located among other possible factors.In Seattle WA, you need to procure an RRIO inspection. The Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance requires that the landlord pays for the inspection from a certified city inspector and for the registration or permit. It’s just a basic health and safety inspection and not a difficult one to pass if your rental unit is in reasonable shape.In addition, homeowners are restricted as to how many vacation rentals they can own in the city. These need to be registered and are capped 2 units per host. There is no limit for longer term rentals.It’s best to consult your city or county as well as your local landlord association.
