You are told you have not travelled before as one of reason for visa denial by a US consular. Does this make sense?It can.One thing that visa applicants often do not understand is that visa officers have access to records of thousands and thousands of visa applicants to refer to in developing their understanding of applicant qualifications. There are patterns visible to us that just aren’t visible to someone standing in a visa line.Use this as an e xample. Let’s say you’re from Nepal. You’ve 20 years old, and never visited China, India, Bangladesh or Bhutan … but suddenly you have an urge to go to Disneyland in California. That applicant might not get a visa.OTOH, let’s say you’ve 25, been to India twice for mid-winter vacations, once in the summer went to Tajikistan for 5 days for a conference, and last summer you spent a week in Dubai. Just a week! Now you’ve got an invitation to the same international conference you went to Tajikistan for, but this year it’s in Toledo, Ohio. In December.These two examples are obviously not of equally qualified applicants. OTOH, if the visa applicant is Canadian, I don’t think any visa officer would expect to see other international travel before a trip to the US. Of course, most Canadians don’t need visas for entry to the US, but can travel visa free for tourism, but the example still applies.

Proudest?I HAD a mere one thing to be of—The passport of poor BangladeshMy first visa to Singapore was refused.My first visa to Europe was refused.Because I was from the poorest of the poor countries of the world at the time, the consulars found stronger reason in my application for me to stay back in their country as illigal immigrant than returning to my poor home country!Even India, our closest and friendliest neighbor, used long to have only one post to issue visa to Bangladeshis and would have almost 80% of the visa applicants refused.Then times went on.I was able to overcome this barrier. This green passport finally took me to 60 countries of the globe in next 10 years (though mostly on work purposes), including Singapore and most European countries. Because I wanted to travel to. And now it seems to be able to take me to all 200 countries of the world should I wish so.And since a recent time, India has opened dozens of visa issuing posts in Bangladesh and more than 80% of the visa applicants are granted a visa.Well, I don’t say this passport just has a walk-in access to those countries. Special scrutinies are right in effect.What, then, makes it to be proud of?It’s still a poor nation, but the people are learning hard how to crack the hard nut of poverty and barriers. It’s overcoming faster than many could even imagine a few decades ago. And I’m feeling good that people around the world are recognizing the progress as well.By the way, I now hold Indonesian citizenship, because I love this country too.To confess, I was overly selfish. Bangladesh was struggling through political and economic turmoils in the 90s. Instead of being part of the fight, I flew out to find and settle in a safer, more peaceful place for my family. After visiting dozens of countries across the world, I found Indonesia to best suit to my desire. This is undoubtedly one of the best places on earth to live in.But in my heart, Bangladesh is always in my heart. She is poor, underveloped and still unsettled. But she is my mother, my motherland. The people are poor and still backward in many ways. But they are my people and I am one of them, I belong to them by my blood and by my race. I love them and I wish they overcome the hardships they still endure, sooner than later.

The wife’s petition for her husband might be approved, but the husband is not required to follow up and apply for the immigrant visa. Or he could go to the interview with the US visa officer but tell him/her that he does not want to immigrate, and to please void the petition.(more)
