Unfortunately there is no straight answer anymore. 5 years ago I would have said Nilkhet, Period but now things have changed a lot.Nilkhet is no longer a cheaper option anymore which once attracted bulk of it’s customer base moreover shopkeepers have narrowed down their focus on the books that sells more for example books on BCS or the ones suggested by universities. They don’t stock that many story books or books on many different topics anymore. Someone who has studied in Dhaka College and later University of Dhaka and very interested in books Nilkhet was a very common place for me to visit but with time I pay fewer and fewer visits as I couldn’t find anything interesting to buy anymore. Although Nilkhet probably is still the cheapest option available.Another option will be New Market, there is still one decent book shop there which holds small amount of Books.Recently however I have visited the book shop inside TSC, University of Dhaka a lot and its only one small shop but packs a moderate amount of books and they are still affordable.PBS can be another good option, they do have a good collection but price is really steep and books by famous writers are mostly available, if you want something uncommon this is not the place.Boi Bichitra is another place that has a decent collection in Gulshan area although like many other shops around this place you have to be loaded to buy even small number of books.You can also use online services like Rokomari to buy books although you will miss the fun of buying books by browsing and reading randomly. (Rokomari does have an option to peek into books but nothing can beat the physical touch)

KD 900 is a decent package for a single person to live in Kuwait. If you have a family to bring over then it is not.House Rent:Rents on the outskirts of Kuwait City are relatively high but if you are single it would be better to take a service apartment that is furnished and has cleaning services (weekly/bi-weekly) as part of the contract. You get decent rates if you opt for a long-term (1 year) contract. Studio apartments can cost anywhere from KD 250 to KD 300 and 1 bedroom (+living+kitchen/kitchenette) would cost you KD 300 to 375. Kuwait is a small place and so you could stretch the ‘outskirts’ for cheaper rent.Transport:Transport fares are again varied… if you opt for an ordinary cab it could range from KD 2.5 to KD 4, depending (this assuming your workplace is in the city). The shortest distance would be KD 1.5.You could opt for monthly services, you get various options like GoCity vans and mini-buses which could be KD 25 - 30 a month. You can get cheaper options run by individual operators. You might even find individually operated private taxis for about KD 45–50 a month.Food & Groceries:Groceries are easily available online or in various supermarkets like TSC, Lulu etc. The online services are by the same. You also have services like Deliveroo here, along with local delivery services such as Talabat and Carriage.Eating out depends on your tastes… you have small eateries and takeaways that are cheap, the usual fast-food chains and you have higher priced restaurants and speciality delis etc. The average monthly food & groceries cost if you do not splurge on high-end restaurants every day could be in the range from KD 50 - KD 150.Health:Your employer would, most probably, provide you medical insurance which is applicable at the ministry hospitals. You can opt for additional private medical insurance, around KD 300 a year.Entertainment:Malls and restaurants take the lion’s share of the Kuwait entertainment pie. You have watersports and yacht rentals which are seasonal. You also have some seasonal para-sailing and hang-gliding etc.You have decent movie theatres and the ticket costs range from KD 3 to KD 10 (for the VVIP experiences). The films are obviously censored.Internet & mobile:For individual users, it is way better to use the Internet packages provided by mobile operators such as Viva, Zain & Ooredoo. They have decent packages starting from KD 7 for 500 GB (monthly). Most service apartments provide free Wifi but you shouldn’t completely depend on any of the free Wifi offers.Mobile call packages are flexible. If you manage to get a landline, the calls are free.Ideally, you would get along happily (maintaining a decently high standard of living) in Kuwait spending around KD400-KD500 a month. You can save the rest.
