PDF Editor FAQ

Is Microsoft Edge going to kill Adobe Reader?

It’s a wrong assumption. *It’s like suggesting “Starbucks will kill Home Depot”.They’re in a different ball game.Adobe Reader is primarily meant for viewing PDF files. These might be scanned versions of real paper documents, or files designed digitally with the intention to become or at least mimic printed media.Microsoft Edge is a browser, primarily geared towards HTML-based content and applications. It probably will be able to display a PDF as well, but it’s not a key feature.* Eventually you’re right ! The way how we produce, create, design, distribute, use, collect, and share information nowadays (digitally and on screens) is indeed decreasing the need for printed media. So browsers (but not just Microsoft Edge) and other apps will dominate in our world of information…

What was it like to be accepted to USC?

To help my story become more real for you, I’m gonna write this response in the second person (“you”) and in the present tense. Let me take you on a journey, baby. Start to finish. Get ready for the ride.In 10th grade, you fall in love with filmmaking at a summer school. Life is no longer mundane, but filled with meaning and passion. You take every opportunity to become a better filmmaker. As you start taking the SATs, you think about college. You realize that USC's film and television program is apparently pretty famous, but also famously difficult to get into, with an acceptance rate that is lower than Harvard. You apply for USC’s film summer school. You get in. You go. It’s pretty cool and awesome. The cinematic complex looks like a fucking dream. It makes you really wanna actually go to USC as a legit freshman. But every talented high schooler that’s at the USC film summer program says the same thing. It’s seems like a pipe dream for literally every young filmmaker. How will you compete?College applications start. Your personal college counselor is super strict, and you are a perfectionist, especially about your USC application film. You break down so many times. This is the most stress you’ve ever experienced in your life. Your parents are worried for you. Finally, college apps do stop (thank fucking god, you think). Time to wait for the results. At this point you don’t have any more shits to give (you’ve used them all during college apps), so you weirdly aren’t stressed. (Even though all your friends are.)Results start coming out.One of your friends got into Cornell early decision. Fuck. And her grades aren’t even as good as yours. You’re pretty jealous, but you won’t admit it.New results are out! Oh no. Rejected from UMich Film Department? Seriously? Maybe your third culture kid essay just wasn’t good enough. At least Loyola Marymount accepted you. So you can go there. That’s still good, you tell yourself. But sure isn’t where you expected to see yourself going to school.Rejected from all the ivy leagues, of course. The fantasy of proudly telling everyone you got into Harvard and seeing their surprised faces? Forget about it, baby. You start to think that despite all the excellent things you are and the hard nights you’ve worked, you might not get anywhere good. Maybe you just suck.Your parents are disappointed in you, though they congratulated you about your Loyola Marymount acceptance and boasted about it on social media to get likes from other parents. You wake up one morning, realize you’ve been accepted to BostonU and Emerson. Ok, those aren’t bad. OK. You’ll just go to one of those. You’re a bit happier. Life is gonna be OK. You realize you are not defined by the college you get into.USC day FINALLY comes. At this point, you know you won’t get in. But you feel ok about it. You’re over it and ready to move on.You head down to Starbucks cause wifi at home sucks. You get there, go on the USC student portal, dead calm. You notice the name of the browser tab name momentarily changed to “admitted stu…” when you log in. you shrugged it off. Probably a glitch. You go to the “decision” page. The final decision is in a PDF. You download the PDF. You open it. It says “congratulations” on the first sentence. You sit there, thinking: “what?” you were so ready for a rejection that you don’t know what to do with this acceptance. You also wonder if you actually got into the film department. You scroll down. “Admitted into the film and television program.” Is this real? you think. You wonder if they sent you the wrong PDF.You tell your barista friend at starbucks you got in. “Wow, I’ve never even went to college. But congrats” he says. You tell your parents you got in. They start crying and screaming. You try to do the same but somehow you don’t feel it. You post about it on social media, and get a shit ton of likes. Your friend congratulates you. You have to pretend you feel happy. As the day goes on, you get so many congratulations that you feel stressed. You still don’t feel wonderstruck or something, even though you’ve tried to make yourself feel that many times. Subconsciously you feel you don’t deserve this success. At night, you start hyperventilating. It’s all too much. Success isn’t what people said it would feel like. Why are you being so ungrateful? Why are you feeling stressed from getting into your dream school? You suddenly remember an old Ted talk you watched, called “Dealing with great failure and success, and the drive to keep creating,” by Elizabeth Gilbert. You pull it up. She explains that great failure and great success feels alike, because your subconscious doesn’t feel comfortable with either. And then, she said: “The only way to find your way back home, is to throw yourself into doing something that makes you lose yourself. Find that thing you are passionate about, and keep doing it.”You suddenly understood. The great success of getting into USC film felt like a great failure to you, because your subconscious can’t tell the difference. (Your subconscious can only tell that you don’t feel normal). You realized what makes you truly happy is making films itself, not getting into film school. You throw yourself into writing a screenplay for a screenplay competition. You stop hyperventilating. After a month, you finally felt truly happy for getting into USC film. But by then, it didn’t matter as much as your next film project. In the end, you learned that the only thing that is important about life is your passion for creating films. Not getting into film school, or not getting into film school. Not being a famous director, or being a failure of a director. The only thing that mattered is that you are creating videos, losing yourself in that process of creation, and finding the truest kind of happiness. Now it’s the summer. You start a Youtube channel, “Virginia Li 思嘉,” and make short videos and films to post. You create a wechat platform (思嘉视界), and write articles. You write articles on Quora. You get pretty good at what you do, and start hiring some interns to help you.You are considering writing articles on Medium, a blog website. You have made a personal website. You are considering opening a photography and visual arts account to post some of your other artworks. You are considering making some videos in Chinese too.You are about to shoot two commercials. On top of that, you are working at a film internship, doing PR and creating a short film with the video company. You no longer think about USC (that much). You’re too busy with creating. You forget to eat and sleep sometimes cause your work excites you so much. You have so many dreams and plans every night before you go to bed. Then you wake up the next day, and carry them out.In the end, getting into USC Film is nice, but you realized the success doesn’t define you, and neither does your failures. What defines you is your work. All that matters is that you are creating meaningful things, all the time. As long as you do that, your life will be fucking amazing no matter where you go.There you go! Hope that changed your life a little bit. If you do please upvote this answer and follow me on Quora! Feel free to check out my youtube channel “Virginia Li 思嘉,” because I give a bunch of advice on getting into USC. My Instagram is Virginia Li.All the best.
