They were very confusing. Everything seemed to be important. Every magazine, book, pdf, toppers notes, and everything else. Fortunately, I had very limited access to these resources outside the Internet, since I was preparing from home. Had I been exposed to the markets of Delhi, I might have got lost in a deluge of irrelevant material. I had to spend hours and days reading toppers strategies in Mrunal’s website to find their common points of preparation. It took me almost an entire month to ‘get started properly’.There was a feeling of liberation though. I need not reiterate the kind of life I had with Chemical Engineering. At last, I could get away from all the dreary talk of IT jobs, placement, CAT, GRE, GMAT, GATE and 6-figure packages. I was not interested in ANY of those. And CSE gave me some hope to latch on to, when everyone else was happy with these conventional options.There was that element of fear lurking at the back of my mind. The decision to prepare for CSE was a bold and unacceptable one for people around me. Some of my friends used to laugh at me when they saw me in college. There was plenty of discouragement around. What if things did not work out ? What if I ended up being a sorry sob in this competition too? “Doesn’t matter, I am anyways a big failure right now. One more time does not matter” - this was how I used to console myself.Changing my lifestyle was another story altogether. Oversleeping, unbalanced diet, indiscipline, and many more. I had to slowly get rid of all of them. It took me almost 2 to 3 months to get even moderate success in this context. The problem of nocturnal routine had to be urgently solved somehow. For this, I turned to cricket, which I used to play very passionately in college. Every year, during the months of January and February, I used to wake up early in the morning to go for cricket practice for the yearly tournament in college. However, soon after the cricket season was over, I used to lapse into the regular night-time mode. But, in the winter of 2015, I made use of this cricket practice and regularised a daytime routine. It has been unchanged since then.There was nobody to turn to for help. Quora was not as popular back in 2014–15. There was none who would take the time to personally guide me in any way. I had to solve all my doubts by myself using hours of research on the internet. This drained a lot of my time, but gradually I learned the art of doubt clearing on my own. This made me self dependent in the long run.Final semester in college was a big dampener in my preparation. It upset a lot of things. Class tests, projects, assignments, and what not. And then the final examination too. There was no way I could have prepared peacefully in those initial days, despite my best efforts. To make up for this lost time, I skipped ALL kinds of farewell programmes, alumni meetings, final year party sessions in the last few months in college. My friends told me that I was missing the “entertainment of my lifetime”. But, I was least bothered about such entertainment at that point of time.
