Why did Sushant Singh Rajput commit suicide?

This answer may contain sensitive images. Click on an image to unblur it.Note: This post is originally written and published on 19 June, 2020.Before you read the story, please NOTE: I am not claiming that Sushant Sir's death was a suicide, or a murder or something else. I do not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments in any way. I do not intend to prove anything. Nor do I have any strong opinion about this extremely sensitive topic or about any real person in the story. The following scene written by Pratik Shelke is just a conversation between a couple. A husband and wife with two different perspectives. Please read it carefully, with an open mind, and please forgive the characters if any line said by them hurt your feelings. Also, advance apologies from the author in case the end of this story leaves you in a surprise, a prayer, or in a shocking realization.“SORRY for not being able to have sex yesterday,” Dia squinted with a tint of guilt before kissing good-day to her husband.“Hey… that’s totally okay!” Krapeet gently kissed her lower lip, and when she didn’t retaliate, he knew something was wrong, “What happened, Dia?” he raised her chin, and two pearls slipped from the eyes of his wife.“I’m feeling low for two days... that pure soul!” Dia suddenly hugged her husband and started crying, “Krapit, you remember MS Dhoni was the first movie we ever watched together? He was so talented, so hardworking…” She couldn’t utter any more words as her sobs sabotaged her speech.“Hey…” Krapit rubbed her back and kissed her head, keeping his bag of laptop away on a chair. He knew Sushant Singh Rajput was his wife’s favourite actor. She always made him mimic Sushant’s dressing and hair style. In fact, she had chosen him for marriage because Krapit was just like Sushant – intelligent, socially awkward, always finding solace in reading, and one with a pure heart and cheerful smile.“I’m with you, honey. I’m with you…” Seeing his wife’s condition, Krapit decided to ditch his office that day and stay back with his wife. He rolled the lid of his water bottle while Dia was still holding him and sobbing. Once the lid opened, Krapit offered her some water to calm her down.“They killed him,” Dia declared on impulse, gulping down water and speaking during each break, “They definitely did. He cannot suicide!” She sat down on the sofa after finishing half of his water bottle. Her teardrops had wetted the pocket of Krapit’s black formal shirt. He didn’t seem to care about it. He simply sat beside her on the sofa, and “Who killed?” he gently asked.“RFY, Karma productions, Mansal Khan Films, all of them ganged up on him together. Nepotism killed him, in short!” Krapit understood this was, what they termed in psychology - impulsive behavior and cognitive dissonance, as Dia was the same person who loved the movies by Karma productions and RFY and always lauded them until this day.“We don’t know what happened, honey. We cannot connect x with y and come out with a z result just to fill the gaps of insufficient data.” Krapit removed his shoes and unbuttoned his sleeves. Lately, for a sci-fi web series that he was writing for Netflix, Krapit has been studying algorithms, computers, artificial intelligence, how machines think, how they give a certain result, etc. He felt that if you give all the info and facts surrounding Sushant’s death to a machine, and ask for the result, it would display “insufficient data!” On the contrary, a human brain would not bear the fact of not knowing something. Hence the human brain would connect the dots, fill the gaps as per its thinking (driven by emotions and current mood,) and come out with an answer. That was the difference between algo/computer intelligence and human intelligence. He however couldn’t say this to his wife as she was too emotional at the moment to digest any more technical terms than ‘insufficient data.’“No… this has to be the reason!” Dia blurted again, “Nepotism is worse than coronavirus. The star-kids are given the movies they don’t deserve and real talent from outside the industry is left to die.”“And why do you think the big production houses give movies to star-kids?” Krapit removed his socks and sat cross-legged on the sofa.“Because they are relatives, of course!”“Not really. Would you invest crores or even a few lakhs in my sister’s son with no guarantee of getting it back?”Dia looked at him. She clearly wasn’t a fool to invest a large amount of money into something that didn’t promise anything in return, but she couldn’t say this to her husband. She just stared at him, trying to make sense.“Can you guess how many followers does the SRK’s daughter Suhani has on Instagram?”Dia shrugged, clearly knowing the number was in lakhs.“Tell no. You follow her, right? Last week you had sent me one of her posts with her friends”“I follow?” Dia quickly opened her Instagram and searched her following list. “Ugh. Let me unfollow that bi- ““Shush…” Krapit put a finger on her lips, “No bad words. Suhani or Kjo or SRK didn’t come to our home, knocked on our door, and asked us to show some love to the person who recently joined Insta. No one forced us to follow her, right?” He smiled and placed her phone down on the sofa.“I will give you a situation, Dia. Suppose, you are a movie producer. You have two options. SRK’s daughter Suhani and an outsider talented girl ‘Y’ Suhani has 1 million followers on Instagram. Even if 50% of her followers don’t show up in the theatres, she still remains with 5,00,000 followers that will show up with their dates, or cool friends, or family to watch the first movie of SRK’s daughter. On average, a movie ticket costs 200/-? Now see: 5,00,000 (remaining followers) *200 (avg. ticket cost) = 10,00,00,000 rupees! This would be the business revenue estimation only from the theatres if they cast a well-known face! Now tell me… why will you take the risk, invest crores, and cast the talented girl ‘Y’ instead of a sure-shot huge revenue source? Think like a business-woman”Dia studied the floor and then looked back at Krapit, “You mean to say… they aren’t responsible for nepotism?!” she sternly stared at him.“They are. But I mean to say that we, the audience, are more responsible for it. Before pointing finger at any businessman, we must ask ourselves - Why are we following Suhani? Have we seen her acting, her talent, any remarkable achievements, any artistic masterpieces? Then why?”“Because she is SRK’s daughter so naturally- “ Dia stopped mid-way as she realized she had spoken what Krapit was trying to convey.“Exactly!” Krapit smiled again, “Here starts the nepotism.”“Maybe… I mean you do have a point but,” Dia seemed to be a bit confused. She took her phone again and searched for Kangana Ranaut’s video on Youtube. “Krapit, watch this real queen. Listen to what she is saying. She is exposing the biggies of Bollywood, she is the only brave and honest and-““Do you know her personally, Dia?” Krapit interrupted, “How can you be so sure then, about her or anyone who you’ve never talked to or met? They are actors, dear”“What do you mean? All this is acting?! She isn’t a good person?” Dia distanced herself in a fury. If there was anyone else present in their flat, they would definitely say that now Dia was angry.“Hey, why are we fighting? Come here,” Krapit maintained his calmness, “I’m not saying she isn’t good. She could be more courageous, more outspoken, more intelligent, and more empathetic in person. Or, she could be less! We cannot judge her personality or any actor’s personality or intentions based on what we are seeing on screen - any screen, small or big.”“Who would you choose between Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut?”“Alia, without a doubt,” Krapit firmly replied, and before Dia could snap, he added “But if you ask me between Sonam and kangana, I would choose kangana without a doubt” Dia wrinkled her nose as her forehead compressed.“I’m judging them by their acting, and acting only. Judge a painter by his paintings, Dia; a coder by his coding, a writer by his writing. Alia is an actress, not a UPSC aspirant to have to be aware of current affairs or president’s names. We cannot judge an IAS officer by his acting skills, right?”“Okay, so if she is an actress whose work is not related to current affairs, she shouldn’t have basic intelligence? She shouldn’t know who is the president of her country?”“She sure should,” Krapit took her hand in his, “I’m sure she has the realization of that mistake. But, does the lack of knowledge makes a person stupid?” Krapit pecked his wife’s fingers and cupped his face with her soft palm, “According to dictionary and wiki, the opposite of ‘knowledgeable’ is ‘ignorant’; not brainless, not stupid. We shouldn’t label her as ‘stupid’ for the rest of her life for one mistake that’s similar to many silly mistakes we do in life and seek forgiveness. And on a lighter note, Alia is British” Krapit smiled, defending his fav. actress very well. Dia equally wanted to defend her thinking for her fav. actor in any circumstances.“I don’t agree with all the ‘don’t judge actors by anything else besides their acting’, Krapit. My hubby is a professional screenwriter and novelist. Every lead character has a trace of him in it,” Dia went a bit closer to Krapit, and whispered, “Except that he is always horny at night; way too much for a writer!” She laughed.“Writers’ aren’t human beings?” Krapit questioned, “Besides, your hubby always makes sure this beautiful lady in front of him is comfortable. Doesn’t he?”“Exactly what I’m saying!” This time Dia trapped him into words, “Your writing and characters are what you are. Kind and genuine!”“My characters have my positives, yes, but do they have all my negatives? Like this horniness?” Krapit puzzled. "In his book The Grand Design, Stephen Hawking wrote 'According to quantum physics, you cannot just observe something and get a conclusion. Quantum physics recognizes that to make an observation and reach a conclusion, you must interact with the object you are observing"Dia blinked her eyes in horror, “Delete, delete the last freaky line. I'm not Sushant! Delete it and continue in a language I can understand”Krapit laughed, blowing a flying kiss to his cute Kitten. "Relax. I was just trying to impress you, Kitty. No one can really understand Quantum mechanics anyway, at least acc. to Richard Feynmann. It's relative, subjective, we can-" Finding a rageful look on Dia's face, Krapit stopped dead on his tracks.“Okay, sorry. Coming back to the image and reality of public figures. See, if tomorrow, Ranbir Kapoor calls me and says, ‘Krapit, would you write articles for me? I’ll post them on Instagram and other channels with my name under it. In exchange, I will pay you 5k per article of 250 words.’”“And you’ll accept that offer?” Dia interrupted.“Not directly. But I would ask ‘Are those articles intended to defame anyone, hurt anyone in any way?’ If the answer is No, I will definitely accept that offer. We will make a baby and I will have to give him/her a good future, right?”Dia leaned on his shoulder, “Yeah… and writing novels cannot make a living. You know, I send the links to your novels to all my friends who like your writings. They either leave me on seen, or they ask for a free PDF since you’re my hubby. I mean, the writer has spent years of his life writing that book. You can also never predict the number of sacrifices he has done, ever. Can you not sacrifice two slices of pizza or half a packet of cigars to buy a book written by your favorite author?”“Haha, yes,” Krapit stroked her hair, “People probably believe that shopkeepers give tea and biscuits for free to writers,” He laughed, always taking life cheerfully no matter how harsh it proves to be, “And you’re right. That is exactly why I will write creative articles or video scripts for that actor and allow him to use his name”“That would create a good image of him in the eyes of the public, no? People would start believing he is multi-talented - a great actor, a great thinker, and a great writer! All because of my hubby” Dia raised her chin and kissed his neck.“Nope. All because of the public’s innocence. We are gullible and we think we are smart who know it all. That is how the politicians (who can be actors, too) exploit our emotions and use it to fulfill their own agendas. That is why I said, you cannot be sure of how a person really is if you’ve never talked or met them. Especially famous and wealthy people. They have a whole Public Relations team to make and break images in the eyes of the people.”“Hmm… We can’t really say who is good and who isn’t. I won’t judge anyone anymore, not so quickly at least” Dia dug her head deeper in her husband's chest. Krapit hugged her tightly as if she was his teddy bear. As he loosened his grip, “Agreed that we don’t have time to peek into the good work of our friends, nor do we have money for them. Agreed that we are the reason X - who has no skills and simply mimics a cool western style - is overrated, and Y - who has originality and amazing talent is underrated. Agreed that we equally contribute and encourage nepotism. Yet, don’t you think shutting down the branded production companies like RFY, Karma productions, Mansal Khan Films, would curb nepotism, at least to some extent?"“And how are you going to shut them down?”“By signing this petition! Just 1 million more signatures are needed. Every sign counts. Did you sign?” Krapit was lovingly looking at his innocent wife who hardly had any idea about the real world.“Shutting down a company doesn’t mean burning all the equipment and employees, right? Even if that petitions really work and we remove that company, how much time do you think will it take for the wealthy owners to start a new company under a relative’s name? They have the people, equipment, connections, everything ready. A company can be registered within two weeks, sweetheart. Within two weeks everything will get back to normal. As it is! Then are we going to play petition-petition all our life?”“God… this is so complex!” Dia held her forehead in disappointment, “I don’t know… I just want to give Sushant the justice, Krapit. I want to make his soul happy. Is there anything that we can do for him that could really help?”“Of course. You know, my grandmom used to say that a person rests in peace when a sufficient amount of his desires is fulfilled. Sushant had jotted down 50 such desires in his 'to-do' list. Maybe God made him share that list with his fans so that when he calls that pure soul up above, his fans can try to fulfill as many of the dreams as they can – on behalf of him!”“Like sending kids to NASA’s workshop or fulfilling wishes of 100 mothers or building the biggest library in India?”“Exactly. We can come together and do that instead of blaming each other, right? Let the police and judiciary do its work. We can try to collect the data and evidences and give it to police, but let's not be the judges and declare things without sufficient information," Krapit opened the lid of his water bottle and drank some before adding, "Wow, the water's tasting sweeter after you anchored it." Dia awed, wondering how this guy still compliments and flirts with her all day even after marriage."See, Dia. Positivity and love give a person peace, not negativity and hatred. Instead of signing petitions to close certain companies only to see those companies rise again with a different name in the future, we can sign petitions requesting Sushant's DCE college to give him his engineering degree. We can send deserving kids to NASA or ISRO. Help prepare students and women for Indian Defence Forces. Plant 1000 trees. We can come together and try to fulfill as much of his to-do list as possible - which contains nothing but something good for society.”“I totally agree,” Dia smiled and caressed her husband's cheek, “Thank you so much for staying back at home today. I’m feeling better and more positive.” They kissed for a moment, and this time, Dia retaliated with passion.“What point from Sushant's to-do list shall we both promise to try to do?” Dia tilted her head.“Point no. 10 and 39”Dia checked the screenshots on her phone “Oh, no. These… are extremely tough, Krapit. You’ve been into physics long ago, but what about 39 - the world record? How are you going to do that?”“I’ve been working on them for long. Shall give you a surprise and dedicate it to our favorite actor,” Krapit smiled.“Tell me no,” Dia wrinkled her sweet nose, “Please?”“Soon!” Krapit pulled her cheek, and “Come. We will pray for Sushant together,” he said and took her away in their small temple room.Thank you for reading! If you loved this interaction of Krapit and Dia, and if you too feel that this is the best we can do for him, kindly share this story, as well as pick your fav. point from his 50 dreams list (planting trees?) and work on it heartily instead of spreading hate <3All rights reserved.Copyright: Pratik Shelke 2020SWA Registration number: 4624/2016-CO/LNo part of this publication may be sold, republished, or re-created without the prior written permission of the author and publisher.Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction.
