How do you develop norms for a psychometric assessment - A 50 item questionnaire using a (5 point) likert scale and measuring 5 factors?

Administer the scale to a representative sampleCalculate scores on each factorCompute percentile ranks for each score point on each factorFit polynomial curves mapping raw score points to percentile ranks (this smooths them out)Compute the final raw-to-percentile conversion table for all score pointsThis process only works if the scale is a good match to the sample, so you may have to do several rounds of revising the scale before this will work.

Survey research: 1 question, two scales (one shorter, one longer). Comparing the two scales - within one test survey - to map the answers. Do you know of any survey literature where this has been done successfully?

Is an industrial psychology career worth it? Can you be successful with only a master’s degree?

Of course it’s worth it, if you put the time and effort in to earn the credentials and actually like what you are doing. I can confirm that, in Canada, a Master’s degree will in many if not most cases be sufficient to get an IO job. I work among a pretty large collection of psychologists in IO and we have a mix of people with PhDs and Master’s degrees. Over time we sort ourselves out according to many factors, such as overall ability, technical knowledge, conscientiousness, interpersonal and teamwork skill, leadership ability etc. With the exception of my position (and solely because it involves testifying before tribunals where credentials matter) nobody cares if you have a Master’s or doctorate. I know people that consult privately with Master’s degrees.Of course I can’t speak for all organizations - some (maybe the bigger consulting firms?) may choose to require a PhD. But it is my impression that outside of academia it is more of an asset than a requirement. What matters a lot more than the degree you have is the set of skills you bring to the table. In my experience it is a significant minority of IO psychs who are really capable working with statistics, psychometrics and (more and more) IT. Having skills in those areas will give you a leg up on those who don’t in many cases, irrespective of the degree. I work more in the “I” side of IO, and psychometrics, while not required for everything we do, is like the life blood of most of our development projects. People with those skills are gold. They ensure our tests function as intended, that they meet professional standards and that they can be successfully defended in the face of legal challenges.Almost everything my organization develops today requires an IT platform to make it go. It’s no longer about multiple choice tests with bubble sheets. Everything is online. Most of what we develop now has an unproctored online testing component (followed up with supervised testing of those who pass). We are now moving into remotely proctored testing. We are introducing an electronic in-basket test that combine human and machine-based scoring. We are looking at smart forms to limit over-collection of certain kinds of information (e.g. medical information for accommodation purposes). We are looking at AI technology to assist or take over administration and scoring of some kinds of open-ended test formats. Gaming technology is getting more and more attention as a potentially more engaging and higher fidelity way of administering tests. It’s not good enough to leave the IT stuff to IT people. It is a partnership and where I work, the lead test developers need to be very sophisticated and literate in these areas.Related to the above, as the sophistication and complexity of development projects continues to increase seemingly (to my pea-sized brain) exponentially, project management skills are becoming more and more important and, if you want to advance in any organization, while they may not be to sole determining factor, they will essentially be the price of admission into the conversation.I mentioned all that stuff to make the point that there are other things besides the degree that are becoming more and more important for success in the industry. So if you are looking for a career in IO, I suggest you start thinking about them as early as possible. All the best in your career, whatever path you choose! :)

The software works well, but customer support is largely non-existent. There is a customer forum, but no way for quick answers from CocoDoc.
