Personal Data Sheet: Fill & Download for Free

I was a Drill Sergeant in the US Army. One of the things new soldiers do is fill out personal data sheets. I had a white girl list herself as African American. And she was. She was a former South African citizen. She was Afrikaans to be specific. Her logic for listing herself was pretty good. Being from a place where race was a very big deal, and used as a legal social mechanism to keep a people down, she used her unique situation as a mini protest.She was not, technically, wrong. She was of African descent, and as American by citizenship. I still made her do pushups for being smug. She was an impressive young soldier.Anyhow, be whatever you want. Genetically speaking, you're 16% identical to a banana.

The worst one for me was this startup company in my city. They first had me take off my shoes prior to entering, that was weird but I respect that. They then handed me a bunch of papers to fill out. One was an exam for the programming language I was applying for, that was fine. The next one though was a lengthy MBTI Personality Test, like that would determine my success in the position or something? I told them that to save time, I’d skip the quiz and just write my personality type (because I had taken it before), they declined. After that they had me fill out a personal data sheet, I raised an eyebrow when I had to write down my Facebook full name and email address. I finally walked out when the next blank was asking for my Facebook password.

As an embedded developer and entrepreneur , we have met many students/freshers/certified engineers who know many things, get good marks but fail to build things.Embedded engineers are required to build products. So while interviewing, we look forward to following things(1) hands on experience on doing things related to electronics/embedded. We expect students to have spend at least 1000 hours (that is less than one hour per day average in four years of engineering)(2) Personal lab - One can not practice in college. We expect you to have your own soldering kit, components, programmers/debuggers/burners.(3) Build real life products that are not copy-paste jobs - It is easy to build quadcopter and line following robots and home automation using HC05 - All details are on net. We expect you to build simple things like Voltage Stabilisers. (Trust me , it is more difficult to build Voltage Stabiliser compared to quad copter made as final year project)(4) Know how to learn / Read Data Sheets and Manuals - A typical question is “what is temperature rise if you give 12V input to 7805 and draw 500 mAmp current”. I have yet to see a student who can find this reply. We do not expect you to know every thing, but expect you to refer to data sheet and find how to do what you need to do. (Again - we have yet to see a singe student who can do PWM coding referring to data sheet, all of them just use same code copied from net/purchased project/training institute.(5) How fast can you shift from AVR to STM or Micro X to Micro Y. Things are changing fast. You may have read/practiced on some thing, but that is already obsolete/will be obsolete soon. Can you shift quickly (say in a day by reading manual ) or need a six weeks training.(Point 6 and 7 added on Jan 7,17 after readinng comments by Abhishek Samuel )(6) Stay in touch with embedded professionals and startups - What ever you do, you need to know the real world. In academic institutions, faculty have limited knowledge, so if you follow their ideas, you may end learning things that are of no use in the world. So better guidance from industry people. Connect with them on linkedin and facebook and quora and regularly ask them questions(7) Show your knowlegde and skills - What ever you do should be known to the world. What ever you do, make a video and share on youtube, write a blog post about your work. Have a personal youtube channel and blog site.Hope this helps.
