How easy is it to invest in Zambia?

Investing in Zambia is very easy. If you are a Zambian, you simply need to sign up with PACRA (The companies Registrar) and ZRA for taxes so you can get a Tax payer’s Identity. Depending on the kind of business you want to invest in, PACRA will guide you as to what investment threshold is suitable for you.If you are non-Zambian, it is equally easy. One option is to find a Zambian to partner with so they help you with the paper work and everything else to settle. Otherwise you need to go to Zambia Development Agency and they will walk you through the investment process.I’m running a series about doing business in Zambia on my site: https://zambiansense.com. It will give you a feel of what its like to do business in Zambia at all levels.

What kind of business can I start with a 1500 kwacha in Zambia Lusaka?

Quite a number, but be ready to start from the scratch and on the streets! And if you are strong and financially disciplined, then you will make it and become a millionaire even if it may take some time. The first one is selling phones and accessories, either new phones or original secondhand handsets, and must be sizeable ones, accessories like headsets, covers, batteries and chargers to mention a few.You can also add laptops after you are established.Second is selling clothes, you buy clothes from cheaper Chinese shops, and resell them either at the city market or any other place within the city and must be for women and children first. And you can later add second-hand clothes and beddings. The third one is selling wigs for women. You can order the wigs from cheaper sources, and sell them downtown, and also add chitenge materials and perfumeries and beauty soaps later. The other one I know can make you some good money in Lusaka is selling food, either like a takeaway or a well-positioned eating place. They are quite various SME’s one can try in Lusaka with 1500, but it all depends on your goals, your vision and the ambition. And always remember to register your business with PACRA, it will help you.So, go ahead and start one!

What is the rule for opening a pharmacy store in Lusaka, Zambia?

Though the question sounds unclear I will answer it in what I think is the best way. Basically Pharmacy businesses in Lusaka and the rest of Zambia are regulated under the Medicines and Allied Substances Act, 2013 and the body responsible with the regulation of these businesses is the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA). Below are the steps someone has to follow before setting up a Retail pharmacy:Setting up a Pharmacy starts with finding the premises where the business should be set up (availability of running water and sanitary facilities are paramount , size of building should be considered ) and registration with the Patents and Company Registration Agency (PACRA).After finding a suitable building, the would be business owner has to put shelves, the dispensary and air conditioning in it. Getting local government (council) certifications (Fire certificate, Business Levy, Health permit) as well has to be done.Contracting a Fully registered Pharmacist who has to be a fultime employee and getting prerequisite reference materials/books (Martindale the Complete drug reference, British National Formulary (BNF), Zambia National Formulary (ZNF) , Standard Treatment guidelines etc) for the pharmacy.ZAMRA is contacted to do the inspection and upon ZAMRA doing the inspection, if everything is found to be in place, ZAMRA issues a Certificate of Registration and then a business can start operating
