On 4th of April 2016, the Ministry of Human Resources and Development released a first ever ranking of higher education institutions in India namely the Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Universities.The concerned authorities have fallen flat on their face for not doing enough research on the matter.The report is ridiculous and quite misleading,to say the least.Only 233 out of 720 universities participated in the ranking survey. It may be possible that some of these major colleges did not participate in the survey.The participation must be increased in order to get a bigger and a clearer picture.An individual even posted his first hand experience here on Quora which read:My college is a 3 tier engineering college.Neither teaching faculty nor placement is satisfactory for a college to be in top 100 in India.Yet my college is ranked in top 100 and that too in under 70. My teachers were asked to do the survey and choose our college in it.And it does not end here,they were strictly ordered by HOD's to do the survey atleast 10 times with 10 different email ID. And yes they did it 10 times atleast.Students were also asked to do the same as the teachers and many students did it in teachers cabin in presence of teacher to make it believe by teacher.And believe me every single student did this and that too minimum 2 times each.Some student did it more than 10 times to get praise by the teacher.(chamcha's as we call them).I did it 2 times in front of teacher firstly by my original credentials (email) and when teacher asked me to do it second time I did by fake credential.Yes NIRF was not verifying emails,no authentication at all.It was also mentioned in document published that "Responsibility for the accuracy and authenticity of the data lies with the concerned institution.". Pursue the profits so their shareholders will be happy with more dividends! That means patients and providers are forced to cover the medical costs because there is not much money left.Stakeholders in the healthcare sectors should aim to improve the patient’s health, not how much they can make out of the patients. Yet, in this Free Market healthcare system, the payers act as financial institutions that prioritize profits over the patients’ health. Their business managers (e.g. accountants, insurance product managers), not the physicians, decide what medical procedures should be reimbursed for. Providers and physicians are forced to either prescribe more unnecessary medical procedures and drugs or treat patients like the luggages on the conveyor belt in the airports in order to claim for more revenue in the fee-for-service system. Who would become the biggest victim? The patients!Opposite to what the capitalists argue, the concept of Free Market just can’t work well in the healthcare sector because you should not treat patients as goods-to-sell and take away the medical funds as profits. You should not anticipate that the competition between the players will decrease the costs because doing so just attracts more players to fight for the limited sources and create more unnecessary communications, which dramatically decreases the operational deficiency. Let the physicians decide what to do in order to improve patient’s wellness. Cut down the middleman with a universal claim process system (Amazon should be happy to help out). Allow the hospitals and healthcare management groups to directly manage the patients’ premium so they don’t always have to worry about what to do and not to do in order to make enough money to cover the costs. Nevertheless, none would happen until we treat healthcare as a non-profit sector, just like the public education system (another important topic to discuss).It is just sad that only rich kids and people can receive good education and healthcare in the U.S. now.
