How is India viewed outside India?

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, BEAUTY, FREEDOM, MUSIC, CULTURE, HARDWORKING and anything positive you could think of.That's everything I thought about India. In fact I felt I had some kind of connection with India but I was lying to myself. I knew about India from the movies. At a point in my life I had more concentration on Bollywood than any other thing. We watched Bollywood movies repeatedly. Kuch kuch hota hai and ka hona pyar hai are still my best movies of all time and I can't even count exactly how many times I have watched them. I couldnt afford to miss an episode of boogie woogie from its first release in 96. I wanted to see India on TV all day but I had no idea that it would be different in reality. So what went wrong?Well, I came to India in 2013 after my college chose to go for an indefinite strike and my parents thought I should change college. I chose to come to India. I remember telling 3 friends that I might be going to India and I remember the first one said India is the most racist country on earth, second osimply said I'd rather go to Malaysia And the last one said India is the best place you could go for IT courses. But I thought it was just their opinions so I didn't agree. I just felt too good about India at the time. So I just prepared and on 8th September 2013, I took my flight. We landed safely in Chennai and there, the journey began. I was greeted by an ignorant beggar at the airport, and he asked for $100 which I refused to give. The Indian rupee is better than my country's currency, so I know how much a hundred dollar is. All of a sudden he started screening at us, saying all kinds of stuff and even pointing at my dad. And I was thinking WTH? I thought they respect elders here. We managed to get away from him but that gave us a bad impression. You know, first impression matters alot. But that's just the beginning.Secondly, it was at school, registration time. It took us 2 days to do a registration that should take not less than 30 minutes. We spent a whole day at the office, everyone one was claiming to be busy. We spent a whole day unattended and no one cared. Then we realised they charged us 60k rupees for airport pickup. Just 2 of us. Myself and my rounger brother with our dad in a Toyota for 60k. But when we asked, they said they'll be using part of the money to renew our Visa's annually till we graduate but we found out that visa renewal is actually free in chennai. And life started for us, the unexpected began to happen. I started to notice the looks. People look at you continously, people look into your eyes and talk about you, others point at you and some even laugh. What are they laughing at? I still have no idea. A lot of people claim that the look is all out of curiosity but I doubt it. I just don't understand why one should keep an eye on a fellow human being. Sometimes while my classmates are chatting I just hear my name pop up but I can't really tell what they're saying as they always speak in Tamil. I try as much as possible to ignore but its hard on me. One can't continue to overlook but I'd rather not cause a scene. Then I began to find out more, like the bias and segregation in everything. I remember a classmate telling me about the caste system and was the most disgusting thing I've heard in my life. I just couldn't understand such in a country with a large number of educated people. I couldn't get it but then I started seeing some differences. I joined classes very late, I missed the whole 1st assessment test and assignment. I had only a month of classes. So I couldn't do well as nobody gave me any kind of consideration. I didn't except any special treatment but at least a make up assement won't be bad. Some teachers did and some didn't care at all and entered all 0's for me. With that, I managed to get a 4.3 cgpa but then I saw people who can't make even simple sentences get 7.+ but I wasn't mad. I just thought I had to buckle up. Life continued that way l, I always try to do better but it doesn't always turn out as I expect. Worst part is having no one to discuss your problems with. The Indian students just go bring their parents and sort things out but not for us. We don't even have people to go to. People are too defensive here, they don't believe things go wrong, rather you did wrong and looking for ways to put blames on you. But I always try to believe its all part of life and one could experience some of this things anywhere. But definately not all.But I think one of the causes of our problems in India is our high expectations. We think its like the European countries. But you can't blame us for that. But its all over now, I just completed my bachelors and I'm waiting for my result. But what have I learnt???Life is unfair.I should see to believe.Movies are full of illusions.Learn to manage money.Quit assuming things. The greed out here is real.My perspective and opinions about India are totally different now ,unfortunately mostly negative. I don't think Indians are bad people but there's too many assholes out there and their actions are trying to over shadow the acts of the good ones. One other thing is how people always try to dupe you. I heard about several incidents where house owners take extra money from tenants. 2 friends of mine got kicked out of their apartment because they request to electricity bill. House owner just comes every month and say that bill is 3500, they got tired of paying and demanded a bill and he kicked them out. Another one was the house owner was charging him X6 the actual reading, and this other guy got 1k added to his bill and when he asked, the house owner was speechless and asked his wife to explain some none sense to the guy. Again, during the chennai flood, some students from Iran were stranded and were looking for a new place to stay just for month. They found a house, but the house owner won't accept 10k, she wants 5k extra for small house. The ugliest part of all these is they don't believe our stories at home. They feel we are just lazy and want to come back home. But this is reality and I hope it gets better. I see a lot of people talking too good about India but I'm yet to see it. I do hope to see before I leave tho. At least I can have good memories of India. Now answering the main question directly;I thought it was the best place on earth but now I don't think so.
