I have been thinking about this. Here are the best ideas I've read about or come up with:A ruler, as you mention: this one is obvious and fairly useful. I think it's probably best run up the outside of the forearm on the off-hand. Ruler tattoos are not likely to be very accurate, so it might be best to instead run them in larger increments across a longer span of the body, like wingspan or vertical height.Identifying information (name, SSN or other ID number): god forbid you should be found incapacitated and without any non-tattoo ID on you.Medical information: useful if unable to articulate critical information necessary to care. Blood type and allergies are the obvious ones. If I had serious allergies to items used in hospitals I would get one of these in a pinch. Location should be a balance between not interfering with everyday life and making visible to emergency caretakers (over the heart?).Donor status: I read this idea somewhere. But I'm not sure if (in the US) a tattoo is legally sufficient to ensure that your organs will not go to waste.Calendar: I considered a universal calendar of the type first displayed here: Karen's Calendar Page.
