PDF Editor FAQ

Do I need to report the balance in my foreign bank account to IRS even if it was through a gift affidavit? If so, I just give them the notarized gift affidavit that my parents signed?

Yes, you need to report in 1040 Schedule B the foreign country name and also need to file Fbar - FinCen114 form. Please let me know if you need any help. Thanks,

What steps do I need to take to sell an out of state car from Arizona in Texas? The car is in Texas. My mom, in AZ, owns the vehicle and is sending me the title to sell. We have not registered it in Texas and plan to sell without doing this.

You have two options. You can find a buyer willing to accept the Arizona title and your solemn word based on your good looks, that you're not selling the car without your mother's permission. That might be difficult, but not impossible.Your other option involves a series of tasks. You'll need to have the car inspected at any place that does car inspections, and make sure they understand that the car is not currently registered in Texas but you are wanting to do that. The Arizona license plates should make that clear. In the past, they would give you a green card to take to the tax office. I don't know if they still do that. You'll also want to have your mother fill out a gift affidavit. The form is available from your county tax assessor-collector's office. She'll need to have it notarized and sent back to you. Then you go to the county tax assessor-collector's office, and tell them you need to register the car in Texas. Take whatever form the inspection station gave you, the gift affidavit, the Arizona title, and your proof of liability insurance (which you also would have needed for the car inspection). The gift affidavit will keep you from having to pay sales tax, but you'll still pay the fees for a Texas title and registration. You should get Texas license plates (front and back) right then.In a week or two, you'll receive your Texas title in the mail. Once you have that, selling will be much easier.

If I move to a no tax state and gift the car I bought in the state to my daughter in Texas, is that a legal way for my daughter to avoid paying vehicle taxes in Texas?

I suspect that it is legal, although if you are doing this with a car titled in Texas you may pay a lot of fees to change the car's registration to the foreign state, then pay more fees to have the car titled again in Texas. There will also likely be inspection fees. But all of that is silly, if your goal is just to avoid paying sales tax in Texas. Texas law allows for a transfer of title among family members without sales tax, if the transferor executes a gift affidavit. The county tax assessor-collector will have a form you can use for this purpose.

Comments from Our Customers

I checked out their pdf software, it's truly great, I liked it and I was ready to buy a year subscription, but all these bad reviews on line about this company made me nervous. However I signed up and now I am pleased to work with it
