Ironically, there seem to be very few direct consequences if a society has a high degree of happiness or unhappiness.The message of Orwell’s 1984 was that a society that is under total control will persist even with higher than average levels of unhappiness. Stalin was able to create mass starvation in Ukraine, mass terror among intellectuals, successful farmers, and potential rivals and persist into the 1950s. Only after he died was the true picture of unhappiness expressed openly — or semi-openly — in the so-called "Secret Speech” that Nikita Khrushchev delivered to the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in February, 1956. The essence of his insight was how the "cult of personality” has the ability to mask the degree of misery in society.We still haven’t completely come to terms with the degree of unhappiness that both the election of Donald Trump in 2016 and his defeat in 2020 created in the United States, particularly when accompanied by a mishandled pandemic. We need time to recover from CoVID-19 and time to reflect on the divisions created between 2015–2021; it took Khrushchev three years to finally name Stalin as having victimized a complete nation. Healing does not occur over night.In the meantime, militias are still having target practice, the razor wire is still up in DC, and QAnoners are learning to persist without Q Drops. Over 1.3 million were vaccinated yesterday but 4005 families lost someone to coronavirus. Americans are not happy yet. It will take time.

The Netherlands has some very cool car brands. Just none that have been mass-produced. Here’s a list of the coolest cars the Dutch have (or had) to offer.But let’s start with why the Dutch never mass-produced cars. We never had a producer's economy here in Holland. Simply because we lack a lot of natural resources needed for manufacturing. Making manufacturing cars an expensive endeavor.This is an unfortunate thing. Because the Dutch are awesome at creating exciting and beautiful cars!DAF: You still see a lot of their trucks driving around Europe today. But they also build cars. Until 1975, when they sold their car division to Volvo to focus solely on their successful line of lorries.Spyker: This brand focused on carriages and airplanes. In 1889 they build the ‘Golden Coach’. A coach covered in gold leaf that is owned (and used) by the Dutch royal family. At the start of the 20th century, they also started building cars. But in 1926 they went bankrupt.Spyker Cars: In 1999 Spyker Cars came to life. In was unrelated to the previous Spyker company but holds legal rights to the brand name, logo, and motto. It is known for producing aircraft-inspired sportscars. At the start of 2010, they took over Saab from General Motors. Only for Saab to go bankrupt at the end of 2011. Spyker Cars itself has been declared bankrupt 3 times. But continues to produce cars today.Donkervoort: Quite a special brand. Builds these beautiful cars that don't compare to any other. Donkervoort is a brand that is loved by many car enthusiasts for its race like driving experience.Savage Rivale: This brand didn't get off the ground. The production of the car never happened due to a lack of funding. Currently, they are working with a Chinese company to build an electric beach car.Vencer: A more recent brand that was founded in 2010. They have only made one model so far that started its production in 2015.Burton Car Company: This Dutch car company sells complete cars as well as kit cars. These cars are based on the Citroen 2CV or Acadiane. They sell a sportscar (see picture) and a 2CV-pick-up. Want to own a Dutch car company? This company is for sale, since January 2019, for a small 5 million euros.Carver: This might not be your typical kind of car. 3 wheels, 2 seats… and it can also tilt. This quite some Dutch engineering. In 2009 the company went bankrupt, due to Toyota. Toyota delivered the Daihatsu-turbo engine that powered this car but temporarily stopped delivery. In 2018 they announced a comeback and production started in 2019.PAL-V: We are ending the list with the craziest of all Dutch vehicles. If you thought the Carver was a crazy piece of Dutch automotive engineering you should look at this beauty. The PAL-V, or Personal Air and Land Vehicle, is exactly that. It’s capable of both driving and flying. With the first successful test-drives done in 2012. It’s expected to be sold starting in 2021 with prices ranging from 300.000 to 500.000 euros. Making this not only the wildest but also most expensive, Dutch car. Fun fact: This car can tilt just like the Carver because they bought this technology from the company.Lightyear: Will this be the Tesla killer? This Dutch electric car can charge itself with solar energy. It supposedly can do 725km (or 450 miles) on a full battery. That’s 130 km (or 80 miles) more than the longest range Tesla (Model 3).
