Does an OTA officer's family in the Indian Army get a pension if he/she dies after training?

First and Foremost, when you join any military academy be NDA (for cadet training) or OTA/IMA for pre-commissioning training, you are still a civilian. Therefore, if anything happens you then you are not eligible for pension. Only after commissioning (i.e. completing training successfully), you are considered as a defence officer and all the privileges as per rank and service will be extended to you.You are in receipt of 75 lakhs rupees insurance which in case anything happens to you, the insurance benefit will go to your next of kin as you declared in your documents. In Case of Death, the following benefits over and above the insurance will be given to the cadet’s next of kin (NoK).Ex-gratia amount of Rs.12.5 lakhs to the NoK.Ex-gratia amount of Rs. 9,000/- per month to the NoK.The above content has been developed by referring Government of India Letter Number GOI/MOD letter No 17(01)/2017(01)D(Pension/Policy) dated 04 Sep 2017 as amended vide para 11 & 12 of GOI/MOD letter No. 17(02)/2016-D(Pen/Pol) dated 04 Sep 2017

Does the military take dead soldier’s gear and recycle it for other soldiers to save money?

There is a set procedure in place. First, the deceased member's military and personal effects are "Off Limits" to EVERYBODY! They are NOT picked through, they are NOT scavenged for "Goodies", Useable Equipment, or anything else for that matter. On the contrary, the effects and gear of a deceased member are "Sacred" and kept in tact, protected, and guarded until the Headquarters Rapid Response Team can arrive, take custody and begin processing. The Team is meticulous. Every detail is documented thoroughly. Personal items are inventoried, documented and shipped to the deceased members next of kin along with the contents of his locker(s) and personal materials from his work station. Items that can be readily identified as Military/government owned equipment are returned to the Supply system. ( Items not readily identifiable: Benefit of the doubt goes to the Service member. ) Contraband, illegal and embarrassing items ( such as pornography, drugs, etc. ) are still documented, but are subsequently destroyed. The possessions of deceased service men and women are handled with the utmost respect, privacy, and expediency. They are moved by "Courier" and by "Signature Control" and are held under lock in Secure ffacilities until they can be delivered to the hands of the designated "Next of Kin" listed in the service member's Official service record. This responsibility is taken very seriously.( I served on that Team on multiple occasions during my military career. )

How can an embassy protect its citizens?

It might interest you to know that the primary mission of U.S. Embassies is the protection of US citizens abroad. Not delivering official demarches to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Not granting visas to our many visitors and temporary workers. Not interlocuting with the UN. None of these take priority over the protection of US citizens.Let me see if I can remember everything I learned in ConGen....Probably can't. The following list is decent, but not exhaustive:Family reunification (immigrant) visas for the relatives of AmcitsJailhouse visitation of Amcit inmates, including hand delivery of vitamins, meds, food supplements, and toiletries, along with reading materials and other fun stuff.Making sure that you get to a decent hospital if you are really sick. Including arranging for Medevac if the situation warrants. (State makes the arrangements--you promise to pay the bill)Getting you a list of vetted lawyers if you find yourself in legal hot waterPromptly evacuating you if you suddenly find yourself in a war/conflict zone. Occasionally via military transport, if no civilian transportation is available. Think Lebanon in 2006, or Egypt during the Arab Spring.Providing temporary shelter and sustenance after a natural disaster. Many people camped out at the Port au Prince embassy after the Haiti earthquake and got MREs, drinking water, and basic sanitation.Providing emergency and routine travel documentationDeath notifications to next of kin, along with taking care of logistics for embalming and transport of the deceased back to the States, as well as disposition of the decedent's personal effects.Victims assistance programs for people who have been mugged/raped/assaulted/abusedProviding overseas notarial servicesVoter assistance programsProvide basic assistance for inquiries about the IRS and Social SecurityUp-to-date travel warnings and security alerts, passed down on a regional basis to volunteer area wardens, and sent by SMS to anyone who registers at an embassy or consulate abroadWelfare and whereabouts checks.Support for family members of children who have been abducted internationally (IPCA)Support for family members of adult hostages and abductees. As a consular officer, I did all of the above, with the exception of housing people on Embassy grounds after a disaster.
