PDF Editor FAQ

Why do some people use Linux instead of Windows on their home computers? Is it just because they don't want to pay for Windows?

Why do some people drive a Prius instead of a Dodge Ram? Why do some people prefer dogs to cats, or vice-versa?Everybody has their own reasons for different tastes; you can only decide for yourself what features to prioritize that help make your decision. Some reasons that come to mind immediately for wiping Windows (which was already paid for) off my computer and replacing it with Linux:Nearly everything is open-source, meaning I can download the source code that make up a program and see how it works, or make changes to it to suit me, or custom-compile it tweaked for optimal use of my particular hardwareIt’s much more modular. By that I mean that you don’t have one gigantic program in memory that runs everything, but hundreds of tiny programs that can enter and leave memory as needed to handle the various tasksJust in general, the basic kernel and drivers essential to make it run use much less memory and run much fasterThere are free/open source (FOSS) alternatives to just about any expensive Windows package you can think of. Not only did I not have to pay for the OS itself; I also didn’t have to pay for a sophisticated photo editor (actually any one of a dozen), a video editor, an audio editor, a DJ broadcasting suite, an office suite (documents/spreadsheets/presentations), a programming integrated environment, web host, etc. etc. etc.I can personally choose exactly which modules to install. There is no bloated installer that requires you to include the kitchen sink when all you want to do is look at pictures of cats.I can customize the desktop with a half dozen major GUI systems (or none at all! I use a minimalist desktop that just presents programs in a text-only popup) and several different command shells… or not even use a desktop GUI at all.

What is the best app for a DJ on the iPhone 3GS?

Well, I see you need an app for iPhone 3GS.Most of apps in the AppStore now require atleast iOS 7 and iPhone 4 for the apps to run. You've a 3GS which cannot run the iOS 7, so, your best bet will be to get "Djay 2" or "Editor- DJ music mixer console" app. Note that you'll be only able to get an older and outdated version of these apps because of lack of compatibility with your phone. The older version, further, would only be available if app developers have them up for download to run on older devices.I would have recommended you a dozen of apps if you had an iPhone 4 or better, but due to the 3GS, I can only say that you give a try to "Djay 2" or "Editing-DJ music mixer console" app. Thanks for your query, feel free to ask for any further help. You can ask me again or message me instead.

What are some good ways to organize your music library?

There are many things to do to organize your music library, depending on what you want to do with it. Some are absolutely essential, and some others you may find optional, or simply not worth the effort since you may not use them as much. How much you want to work towards organizing your library depends on how much you are interested in music and how much time you want to spend with it.In short, these are most of the things you can do with a music collection to have it organised:Add all basic details to every song (ie tag): title, artist, album name, album artist, track number, year, genreAdd artwork for every trackAdd lyrics for every trackAdd genre category to each trackAdd BPM for each trackAdd the main musical key of each trackRename all track filenames and folders correctlyAdd additional tags to all tracksSynchronize ID3 tagsCreate some good playlists for different moods, occasions or eventsBackup your songs in the cloudRecommended software for all of the above (Windows) :MusicBee (free): MusicBee - Music Manager and PlayerMusicBrainz Picard (free): Downloads - MusicBrainz PicardJRiver Media Center (trial): JRiver Media Center - DownloadiTunes (free): iTunes - Download iTunes NowMP3TagPro (trial): Professional MP3 Tag Editor, ID3 Tagger, MP3 RenamerSerano DJ (free): Download Serato DJ | Serato.comMega account & sync software (free): https://mega.nz/Here are some details about why each is useful and the software do to it with:1. Add all basic details to every song (ie tag)This is the most basic organizing you can do to your music collection. Without it, you basically have a bunch of scattered files here and there that make no sense, and are hard to find and play. Effectively, without this kind of organising, your music is useless. All your long-term efforts of collecting music go to waste and appears more like a burst of OCD/Pokemon Go type of addiction (gotta catch’em all): What good is it storing music that you can’t find and cannot play? And why miss out on enjoying your music because of bad organising? But all this can be resolved. The best software for this is a combination of MusicBee (free), MusicBrainz Picard (free), JRiver Media manager (trial)2. Add artwork for every trackYour tracks are nice when they have titles, but we live in 2016 and well, they look a lot prettier when you can also see this artwork. The difference is that you suddenly get more than the idea that you have music: you can actually SEE your collection, you can be inspired by the artwork, you can remember songs easier and you can organize it easier too. Having artwork makes music on the PC much more reminiscent of owning a CD collection. It doesn’t look like you are dealing with data files any more, but with real albums containing music. The good news about adding artwork is that you will see it in every single player you use, including Windows Explorer, so it is worth the effort. They will look something like this (this is from Windows Explorer):Much prettier than they used to be.Tip: To do this on Windows Explorer for all your files:Go to your main music folder eg C:\My musicPress Alt if the Windows Explorer folder band is not already showing at the very top so that it appears.Click on View, and select Large icons right below itNow to apply to all sub-folders, click on “Options” and then “Change search and folder options” at the top right of the Windows Explorer folder band.In the new Window click on the View tab.Click on Apply to all folders. It looks like this:3. Add lyrics for every trackLyrics can be saved inside every music file - or retrieved on the spot for every song. Not everyone sings to lyrics, but audiophiles like them, plus as soon as you have them, you can use them anytime. Musicians also like lyrics when they play the songs. The best software for this is work is MusicBee (free)The whole process is automated on MusicBee. Simply select all your songs with Ctrl+A, and then right click on any of them and select “Auto-Tag by Track” -> “Update missing lyrics”. Sit back and wait.4. Add genre category to each trackAs soon as you have added genres to every song you will soon realise that it is not good enough to really class your songs: there will be too many genres, some of which may contain only a few songs. Having 2 layers of genre classification (ie genre category and genre below it) is more useful.Doing so is also useful when you have, for example, many songs that actually belong to the Dance genre, but each may be of a different style eg Club, House, Deep House etc. This list really helps for this kind of work: Music Genre List - A complete list of music styles, types and genresSimply set the main genre in every song as from the list, and then sort your music library by category and see the difference. An easy way to do this is this:Go on the above websiteCreate one playlist for each genre category in the website ieAlternativeAnimeBluesChildren’s musicClassicaletc. Now sort your songs by Genre in MusicBee.Right click on each Genre and select “Add to playlist”, and select the respective playlist for the genre category that this genre belongs to.Once you are done, go to each of the playlists, select all songs, right click end choose EditSet the Genre category field as the one of the name of the playlistDelete the playlistsCorrection: There doesn’t seem to be a “Genre category” MP3 tag, so this kind of classification is probably provided by MusicBee. To organise the files however, the above tip still applies. Simply set a Custom ID3v2 tag (eg. Custom 1) as the Genre Category above, and then sort the files by that tag.5. Add BPM for each songTypically only users like DJs or runners know about this function. BPM stands for Beats-per-minute, which is an indicator of the tempo of the song, such as how fast or slow it is. DJs want to know this to do proper mixes. Runners and athletes also want to know as they tend to select faster songs to match their heartbeat or running pace with the song tempo. But it is actually useful for audiophiles as well.Knowing the BPM of songs gives you another dimension of the songs which is as useful for creating better playlists and moods as the music genre. Think of it this way: How would it feel if right after a very slow song, you suddenly have a super-fast song? Wouldn’t that suddenly disrupt your mood in an erratic manner? Hopefully you can know this information about songs in advance. The best software to do this is Serano DJ (free). Sometimes however Serano DJ does not properly calculate the BPM for some songs (reason unknown). You can do this on Serano as follows: Add your music library, and then click the cog wheel next to the Analyse files option, ensure Set Beat Drid / BPM is set (also a good idea is to also leave Set Key set for setting the musical key for each song) and press Analyse Entire Library. Sit back and wait for the results (it may take a while).6. Add the main musical key of each songThis is something that is more interesting for DJs who mix different songs, and so it is important that they are both on the same key (ag Am, G Maj and so on) so that the mix doesn’t sound bad. If you have no interest in doing mixes, you don’t need to bother - although the key is automaitcally determined at the same time that the BPM is calculated with software like Serano DJ anyway.7. Rename all track filenames and folders correctlyThe information you see on media players comes from the tags of the songs, and not from their filenames. In some ways the filenames are not important any more. However, if you use Windows Explorer to save and organise your files, and if you like tidiness of your files as well, this is a work you can do with software like MP3TagPro.Basically, you need to decide on a format for renaming your songs. For example the simplest way to name files is this:Make the folder name the album name. Then name every track as (Track number). (Artist) - (Track name)Of couse you may also have folders named by the Genres or Genre categories, or others. But still the above track naming should work. Or you can come up with another format. The best software for this kind of work is MP3TagPro (trial). This is what it looks like:Notice the Format I have entered above: “%0. %A - %T” (or alternatively “%0. %1 - %2” is exactly the same). I set Capitalization to Unchanged here. The result is that the program will use the Track number, Artist and Track name tags from each file to rename the selected files.8. Add additional tags to all tracksThese are tags that you don’t usually use, namely: grouping, mood & occasionTo explain grouping: Grouping is a field where you can enter multiple group names (typpically genres, but they can also be anything) separated by ; eg. Rock; Indie; Metal; Jazz. The track is then added to all groups of songs with that name. The difference between Genre and Grouping is that with Genre, each track will only be appearing under one Genre, whereas when you sort the tracks by Grouping, the same track will be added to multiple different groups.Mood & occasion are really useful in 2 ways, and I will show you one trick for one of them:They can help you quickly create new playlists. In fact, as soon as you have the mood set for all your soungs, you may not even need to create some playlists at all. This is the trick, and effectively why you don’t have to create playlists as in no 1. Simply do this: as soon as you have set the mood for your songs, when you open up MusicBee, use the search bar at the top right and type in a mood, for example, “happy”. You will immediately see a list of songs which have been tagged as happy, and you can start playing them straight away!MusicBee has a very easy, automated way to set the grouping, mood & occasion. Simply select all your songs with Ctrl+A, right click and choose “Auto-tag by Track” -> “Update missing tags using http://last.fm Tag Cloud” and tick the relevant boxes in the menu.In a short period of time all the tags will be updated with information wihch has been submitted by many different users who listened to these songs, and you are set to go!9. Synchronize ID3 tagsMP3 songs have 2 versions of tags, ID3v1 and ID3v2. Modern media players can handle both, but older and some mobile media players - and specifically on Android 2.1 and previously - can’t and only use the old ID3 v1. If you have fixed the tags on all your songs and they look good when you are viewing them from a player on your PC, but the information doesn’t display well when you run them from your mobile, this is very likely the problem. All you have to do is synchronzie the ID3v1 tags with the ID3v2 tags. Synchronize tags makes sure that ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag contents are identical. This is an automatic process. On MusicBee select all your songs with Ctrl+Ago to Tools -> Advanced -> Synchronise Tags…Note that this process may still cause weird ID3v1 tags to be created. Some Genres may still appear weird and inapplicable, since ID3v2 allows the use of free format text to call your Genre whatever you wish, while ID3v1 uses a fixed list of numbered Genres. If there is a correlation in the main Genres (like Rock, etc), all will be OK. "Smooth Jazz" may not. You may then have to re-tag the problematic files with ID3v1 supported Genre names. This tip is with the help of: Music genre problem - anyone else?10. Create some good playlists for different moods, occasions or eventsThe final purpose of music is to create nice moments and nice moods that match your life appropriately. For example, here are some of them:Personal momentsRelaxation after a tired dayFocusing on some work eg study or creative workRomantic time with your partnerCelebration of successFeeling sad about an incidentGetting uplifted before a night outCelebrationsBirthday partiesChristmasWeddingsAnniversariesIt is highly recommended to make your playlists after you have organised your library. The reason is that playlists save songs with the filename and folder structure, so if you move your files around then the playlists will not work any more.Playlists can be made with any music player, including MusicBee, JRiver Media player or iTunes11. Backup your songs in the cloudPeople usually forget the importance of backing up their music collection. But it is important because:Collecting songs takes a lot of time - you may have to spend a few years to create a collection of songs that you really like. The value of that collection is very high.Creating your personalised playlists by hand-picking every single song to create your own moments takes a lot of work and their value is indispensable.Organizing your music library takes a lot of work and tools. Once you are done, you don’t want to have to go through it again. An easy way to backup all your music when you are done organizing is to use the Cloud to store your music. A free account from http://Mega.nz should be all you need. Simply sign up, and you get a whopping 50GB for free. Then download their Mega syncing software and direct it to your Music library folder, and let it sync your songs in the background.By the way, there is a very handy app for Android devices which allows you to stream music directly from Android: Mega Mobile Streaming - Android Apps on Google PlayHoepfully this should cover most of what you can do with your music library. Note that I haven’t gotten into technical details about how you can do each step, mostly because there are many alternatives ways, although I may add some of this later on.Update 29/07/2016:Corrected the Genre category tipAdded a new section about Synzhronizing ID3 tagsRemoved Mixx from the list of BPM-detection tools because it does not appear to save the detected BPM in the track file.Corrected the explanation for what the Grouping tag is.

Comments from Our Customers

Sometimes PDF Element does exactly what I want to do with no problems. Sometimes it drops its watermarks on my documents even though I have paid for the software. Sometimes it is easy to extract pages and use them to create a new PDF. Sometimes, like now, I get blank pages in my new document. I also get constant nag screens and Emails offering me a deal on software I already own. When it works, it's awesome. When it doesn't, Foxit.
