My father has retired from the ESIC and has also been an SSO during his career. So I'm probably the right person to answer this. Going by comparison, I feel SSO is better because :Salary: Comparable but other things matter.Holidays : you get all the gazetted holidays plus you don't have to work on any Saturday.you get RH for holidays like Raksha Bandhan. There are no holidays in banks for such festivals.Pay scale: governed by the 7th pay commission. Even though it is reviewed every 10 years, still has more perks involved and is overall better than Bipartite Settlement.Work life balance: I've never seen my father leave office later than 5.30PM whereas my mother and I being bankers stay even till 8pm at times.Job profile: SSO is more of a managerial/field job. Bank PO is now only a misnomer, you don't do much officer work but more of clerical work along with dealing irate customers and sales work. There is no customer dealing in SSO profile. Sometimes inspections are involved.Medical assistance: you get free medical assistance at ESIC dispensaries and Hospitals. You also get medical coverage at designated hospitals. In banks, most of us get a floater medical policy till 5 years which is most of the times not enough and we need to buy additional medical cover.Leaves: Bank employees get medical leaves for only 18 years of their career. ESIC employees get them for their entire career.All in all SSO is pakka sarkari naukri whereas Bank PO is not 100% sarkari. I'll add points as and when I can but this answer shall give you a fair idea.
