Lots of government project got cancelled midway for various, sometimes unclear, problems. Bridges and highway projects take long time to earn verification due to land aquisition alone, thanks to a bad habit of local people not willing to SELL their land. With the scale of development that our government is aiming, it is hard to imagine how those targets can ever be done in a reasonable time. There are not enough eligible national companies to cover all the projects. Even if the government could get private companies to do the work for them, most of the case the local people takes a defensive stance against private company, not trusting them for the task they are going to do. When the people are creating trouble hindering the company's business, most private company decides to call it quits. It is a dilema.The point is, the direction our government take is not wrong, but with such a big target we (construction companies) can either do what can be done and let the government take the bad image, or we can say "yes boss" and do all the projects with reduced scale or quality. I mean, even if we build simple water reservoirs and call it a huge dam project, no one would notice, would they?Anyway for civil engineers, the more projects we have, the more money for us. Despite the bitter topic of the conversation, the professor and I were talking happily.
