What happens when a weapon is totally lost? Does that military man have to pay it back, in money, for losing his weapon?

I've been in 3 units where an individual had lost a weapon. In every case, it's that, "oh crap," moment, because everyone knows their days are really going suck until it's recovered. A weapon is considered a sensitive item, just like special radio equipment, the CEOI, and other equipment. In two of the units in Fort Bragg, the weapon was lost while in the field, and once there was notification of one being lost, ALL TRAINING STOPPED!! Then, everyone lined up at double arm intervals, and walked in a line back and forth, back and forth for hours, days and weeks. We continued to stay in the field long after the training exercise was over. We continued to sleep, eat, and walk, but no weapon was recovered in one instance. The other weapon was found in a deep creek. After 3 weeks, we came back from the field, and everyone was locked down on post and not allowed to leave until a 100% inspection and inventory of all equipment. Slowly, they released people who maintained control of their sensitive items, BUT the soldier who lost his equipment, his team leader, the squad leader, the PSG, 1SG, and commander stayed back, and in one case, a (sworn statement) DA-2823 was done, then the soldier was given a company grade article 15 with extra duty and forfeiture of pay. They also completed a DD-362 (Statement of Charges), and the individual lost 1 months pay to help recover the cost of the equipment. The final weapon was “lost” on Fort Drum, and after the notification, the entire Brigade was locked down in Cantonment area. In that case, a Beretta 9mm pistol disappeared. The only places we were allowed to go was the messhall and company barracks. After 2 weeks, it finally materialized in the bottom of someone's duffle bag in someone's car. There were 100% inspections of the entire area to include POV cars. No one was allowed to visit or leave the area. In that case, a soldier had stolen the weapon from another soldier. The thief was court-martialed and given a bad conduct discharge. The entire post was locked down and no one was allowed to leave or come on post for a while.Weapons and all sensitive items are closely monitored, it's the sole responsibility of the person that has the item to maintain control of it. So yes, after an individual loses one, they can be charged for the item up to a certain amount.

Which letters do not appear as a double letter in any English word?

I've done a quick analysis of a dictionary file in Python, and I got the following results:a: 8 hitsb: 125 hitsc: 185 hitsd: 200 hitse: 836 hitsf: 362 hitsg: 146 hitsh: 4 hitsi: 3 hitsj: 2 hitsk: 10 hitsl: 1346 hitsm: 302 hitsn: 300 hitso: 802 hitsp: 336 hitsq: 0 hitsr: 448 hitss: 956 hitst: 564 hitsu: 8 hitsv: 8 hitsw: 1 hitsx: 0 hitsy: 0 hitsz: 62 hitsBased on this pretty extensive dictionary file, I can say that there are no words in the English language in which the letter q, x, or y appears twice in a row.For those who prefer the full list, it can be found here. Those who are interested, can find the Python script that I used here, though it's not very clean; it was meant to quickly generate a the above list without much ado, nothing else.UPDATE:I've used a more extensive dictionary file (standard dictionary on any UNIX system) because of CJ Marland's comment, and sure enough, it does seem to make a difference:aa 124bb 924cc 1524dd 1033ee 3955ff 1742gg 1134hh 74ii 420jj 2kk 72ll 11328mm 2020nn 2421oo 4611pp 2020qq 1rr 3646ss 13820tt 3229uu 27vv 12ww 57xx 0yy 4zz 271While there were no words with double q or double y in the smaller dictionary file that I used initially, they do seem to exist, although I would say they're not very common:zaqqumAyyubidcubbyyewgayyousnarleyyow
