What legal right did the British have to execute William Joyce, an Irish citizen, after WWII?

This was a contentious part of the case!Whilst he was born in the US his family returned to Ireland when he was very young before the independence of Ireland, he later on applied fraudulently for a British PassportThe Prosecution argued that by dint of that passport he was entitled to the diplomatic protection of the Crown and therefore committed treason by breaking allegiance to his passport’s nationalityAt the time the US had no interest in protecting a Nazi minor henchmen so no objection was raisedThe issue of his passport was the justification for his appeal whicnwas rejectedAs AJP Taylor later summed it up, he was hanged for making a fraudulent passport application - but there was little sympathy for him in 1945-6

Why isn’t Australia automatically granting permanent residency to UK citizens who wish to settle in Australia?

I’m British but I arrived in Australia in 1971 with my British Passport and was welcomed into Australia without a Visa, at that time they needed immigrants and I guess British people were easier to accept and assimilate.I was surprised a few months later when I was invited onto the Electoral Roll and told that voting was compulsory! I asked a few people about this and was told that as a permanent resident I would be treated as if I was an Australian. For about 10 years I would occasionally fly back to Britain to visit my family and whenever I returned I would get a stamp in my Passport that stated I was a ‘returned permanent resident’. However, on one such return I was advised by the Immigration Officer that Laws could change and he recommended that I apply for Australian citizenship.I took his advice and quite quickly I went through the process and received a ‘Certificate of Australian Citizenship’! So now I’m a dual-citizen and very happy about that. Although I’ll probably never return to live in Britain, I enjoy having free access to both countries. In answer to the question - Australia needed people/immigrants in the 1970s but by the 1980s they were being swamped with applications and that’s when they decided to put a stop to letting just anyone in, even if you were British you still had to apply for a Visa.Nowadays they want young skilled people, people who will contribute to society and not become a burden. I was lucky that I arrived when I did because I know they’d never let an old man like me in any more!

Why has Meghan Markle lost the chance to qualify for getting her British passport as well as UK citizenship?

Pretty much! It was reported in 2020 that she had quietly abandoned her application for British citizenship. Now we know that this is a person who never does anything quietly - unless she has something to hide. She probably rightly thought that she would lose her remaining three British fans if it was trumpeted in her usual fashion. And of course, she has no need of it now as she’s persona non grata in the UK and Commonwealth. And finally, if she had become a UK citizen, she couldn’t become Madam President of the US - a remaining fantasy of hers - so we hear…😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪
