Attached Pud: Fill & Download for Free

Yesterday, my girlfriend invited a bunch of people over for a big group dinner. It was delightful—good food, great conversation.One of the people who came over brought a delicious raspberry pie. It was amazing. Lovely, fresh raspberries on top of a delicious pudding filling…mmm.We didn't really eat the pie, more like fell upon and devoured it. It was so good.It disappeared quickly. So what was the point of eating it? It didn't last forever, so why even have it at all?Something does not have to last forever in order to be good and to enrich your life. If you spend all your time lamenting that nothing is eternal, you will not appreciate the awesome people and things that are all around you right now.

Where we live tends to get a lot of rain in the spring, and combined with heavy melting snow, that can make for a whole lot of water. But since we live on a little hill, the water we get tends to flow down the street into the basement of the unfortunate guy that lives on the bottom of the hill. He always has two sump pumps going.However…..One winter a few years back we had very heavy snow that saturated the ground when it started melting in the spring. And in early April we got a very fierce storm that turned into a full blown nor’easter, complete with howling 70 knot winds, and almost ten inches of rain in two days.We weathered far worst storms, so we weren’t particularly worried. We figured the water would just roll down the hill into our neighbor’s basement like it usually did, and our sump pump would take care of the rest.But…About 7 o’clock that morning, our cat Puddin’ Head, became very agitated and kept going down to the basement and yowling. We figured he was just being a pudding head, and heard the heavy rain or something.However, when his frantic behavior persisted, I decided to take a look in the basement to see what Puddin’ Head was being such a pudding head about, and I was shocked at what I saw.About four inches of water covered our basement floor. I got my sister and we waded over to where the sump pump was, and it was eerily silent. Not a peep out of it.Since the pump always worked before, we tried to determine what was wrong with the accursed thing. But that was difficult since our knowledge of sump pumps was limited, and it was under half a foot of water.We finally got the thing loose, and saw that one of the valves was completely disconnected, and the attachment cracked. Nothing we could do to fix it.So we did the only logically thing we could do. We panicked.The wind was still howling, the rain still pouring, and poor Puddin’ Head was still running around yowling.So,,,,We hopped in our car, told Pudding Head to watch the house, and headed on over to the local hardware store.Fortunately they were opened, and we showed the pump to the guy working there, and told him we wanted one of these. Of course he didn’t have the one we wanted, but just happened to have a more expensive model. At this point we couldn’t refuse, so we bought the thing and took it home.The water in our basement got to about ten inches before the rains stopped, and we managed to get the new sump pump working.The sun came out, so we opened the doors to the basement, and with Pudding Head supervising, we dragged all the stuff out to dry in our backyard.We ended up throwing out some books and other beloved things, but overall we didn’t make out too badly. Some poor folks at the bottom of the hill had their entire basements fill up, and water covered the bottom floor of their houses. I heard the fire department was going around pumping water out of people’s basements.Water damage can be a very costly and difficult thing to repair, especially if it inundates rugs and gets behind walls. We were lucky, our flood stayed confined to about ten inches of the basement floor.So…Our house wasn’t exactly severely damaged, but we had to throw out stuff and do a whole lot of cleaning.Sump pumps are one of those things you usually don’t think about until it’s too late. Fortunately a pudding headed beast was paying attention to what was happening in the basement, while we were upstairs totally oblivious to the situation.Sometimes we wonder if Puddin’ Head is really such a pudding head after all.Puddin’ Head keeping an eye on things.Water still rising. :(I think there were tides down there.It took a lot of time and work to dry everything out.Our hero. :-)) Pics by Anna K.

My best friend is crazy loud but doesn’t talk to many people.I’m kind of quiet but I have friends and acquaintances from all over.She hates Christmas music, pudding, old movies, nachos, Lord of the Rings, and everything else that is good in the world.I love those things. We’re really different but we get along really well and are kind of attached at the hip. It’ll be her birthday soon so I saw this and wanted to answer it. :)
