Exactly how are those two things related in any way?Now as soon as I saw them say “AR-15 Assault Rifle” I knew this was going to be an extremely biased piece as the AR-15 is a semi automatic sporting rifle. I defiantly like this part “the ATF must go the roundabout route of tracing a gun’s serial number to its manufacturer, then to the distributor, and then to the shop” Now I have worked in engineering for 30 years, Im not a coder but I know enough that are. A simple script and with the results of a computer can take 15 minutes at the most for something like that. So that whole part is just the “gun control” people asking for the registration list in another of their many ways which can only be used for confiscation purposes. Gee, now that they know the shop that sold it in under 15 minutes the FFL is required to keep that information for 20 years.Exactly how many criminals in the United States leave their weapon with the serial number still on it at a crime scene? I don’t think I have ever seen an official unbiased document saying serial numbers helped solve this crime, I don’t believe I have ever heard from someone in law enforcement saying having this serial number made a difference in solving this or if only we had the serial number we could solve that.I really like the way they keep saying the “ATF said” but dont seem to point to any official ATF docs that seem to back up this “ATF said” claim.I really like this. “There is language attached to appropriations bills in recent years that prohibits the ATF from simply requiring licensed firearms dealers to conduct occasional inventories of their supplies to check for lost or stolen guns” I know quite a few FFL’s in various states, every one of them gets ATF inspections that every gun has to be accounted for, all paper work has to be there, all security measures have to be in place.There is a link on there to a place with a bad security certificate that apparently the contents have moved and are not even there any more.Course that The New Republic which has changed ownership many times is left biased as was totally obvious by the “AR-15 Assault Rifle”I find it really hard to believe any story written by a totally biased place that although they keep saying things like “ATF said” etc. They cant point to one official ATF doc that backs that up and I know a lot of the things said are not true.

How about a history lesson? In the 20’s, machine guns were being used by the Chicago gangs. The country got tired of mass machine-gun shootings, and imposed serious restrictions on full-auto firearms. From that point on, if you wanted a full-auto firearm, you had to:Obtain the license.Renew the license every year.Register the machine gun with the ATF.Get permission from the ATF to travel outside your home state with the firearm you possessed legally, and obtained the license for.Ensure “proper storage” for the machine gun.And periodically confirm with the ATF that you still possessed the machine gun.If you were willing to do all that, you could still get a machine gun legally. It was a pain, but you could do it. And for decades, pro-gun people were happy because they could still obtain these firearms legally, and they stopped turning up at crime scenes. To this day, legally obtained machine guns never turn up at crime scenes.Then in 1986, the government said “Ah-ha! NOW it’s got to be a pre-1986 registered machine gun! No more!” From that point on, you could no longer buy any machine gun that was made or not registered before 1986. Even if you followed all the laws to the letter, and endured the process, and were granted the license, you could not own ANY fully automatic firearm not on “the list” before 1986. Which was the same as a ban by wear/attrition. Even though crime was not occurring with legal machine guns, and even though the owners were complying with the law, the legal owners and those who wished to obtain a fully-automatic firearm were stabbed in the back. It was a ban for no reason.So you tell me, why do YOU think we believe gun control is really about banning firearms? History speaks for itself.

Bud, to buy an assault rifle in PA you need to pay a $200 Federal tax stamp. Not at all sure what the Feds require agewise for an assault rifle. You will certainly be 21 by the time you’re able to collect the thing.You need to fill out forms for the ATF.You need to find and pay for an assault rifle which is on the Federal registry, which itself closed to new weapons in 1986. An FFL with appropriate credentials will have to hold that weapon until the ATF issues you that tax stamp. Not all FFLs qualify.Meanwhile they will send you through what amounts to a body cavity search of your background.Oh yeah, the selling price of any assault rifle available for sale starts at $20,000 and goes up, fast, from there.A year from now assuming all is well, you might get your tax stamp and be able to collect your weapon.Now try to afford the ammo for that full-auto capable weapon. After a few cases ($$$$$) of ammo, it won’t be nearly so appealing.If you meant what California defines as an “assault weapon”, not an assault rifle, please ask your question again using the right terms.
