Would Bill Clinton have become President if he did not have Hillary in his life?

There is an old joke of Bill and Hillary driving on a rural highway in Illinois and the gas station attendant is an old high school flame of Hlllary. They chat a bit and then drive off, Bill is laughing to himself and says, "just think, you could have been the wife of a gas station attendant." Hillary looks at him surprised and says, "if I'd married him, he'd be president."But that's all it is, is a joke. Bill Clinton was clearly driven from an early age and had the political talent to do it with or without Hillary. While Hillary was a huge asset when he ran for President, people forget she was a liability early in his career because she was more forward on women's rights than Arkansas voters.

Why aren't there as many black scientists?

This is Lee Lorch. He’s the guy who taught me first year calculusHe got his PhD in mathematics at the University of Cincinnati in 1941. After serving in the U.S. Army, he got a job at City College of New York.He was fired for his work in the civil rights movement. He joined that when he learned that blacks weren’t allowed in his housing development.Undeterred, he found a job at Fisk College, a historically black college in Tennessee. The year after he started, he went to a mathematics conference in Nashville, where he found that black mathematicians weren’t allowed to attend because the facility was “whites only”.A few years later, he was called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee where he refused to answer questions about his political activity prior to 1941. Fisk fired him.He moved to another all black college, Philander Smith in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had to resign after getting involved shielding black high school students who were trying to attend the all-white high school. Then he smartened up and moved to Canada where he worked at the University of Alberta for nine uneventful years before moving to York University in 1968, where he remained until his death in 2014.On the way, he trained 3 of the first 20 black women every to get a Ph.D. in mathematics in the United States, and the first three black men to get doctorates in mathematics in the United States. Before that, there weren’t any black Ph.D’s.Now, if you think things were tough for him just because he helped black people, imagine what things would be for someone who actually was a black person.Lorch with Etta Falconer, the fifth black woman to get a Ph.D. in mathematics. Lorch was her supervisor.

What was the slickest thing you have done or seen somebody do on an airplane?

I was traveling with a friend who is an ER doctor from Indianapolis to Dallas. About half way through the flight an older gentleman across the aisle and up a couple rows started to get out of his seat then collapsed back onto the person next to him.My friend calmly moved towards the gentleman while pushing every call button that he passed. Two flight attendants started his way and he said loudly that he needed the medical bag and AED. With the help of another person they lowered the unconscious man into the aisle and started CPR. The AED and medical bag was delivered which was well stocked with medications but the gentleman was not responding well. My friend looked at the flight attendants and stated that he was a board certified emergency medicine physician and I'm ordering this plane to land. The attendant had a brief conversation on the phone with the captain and within a few minutes we were on the ground at a airport in Arkansas that the town name escapes me. The gentleman was met with medical personnel and my friend was met by security. After about an hour and a half on the ground where most of the time was spent by my friend filling out paperwork as to why the plane was forced to land we were back in the air.My friend followed up with the gentleman who did suffer a heart attack and recovered because of the quick in flight medical attention.Having the power to order a commercial aircraft to land while remaining cool and calm while simultaneously saving a life is as slick as it gets.Edit: several people are getting hung up that a civilian can't order a plane to land. Yes I acknowledge that the Captain has to request a emergency landing and air traffic control has to figure out how to make it happen. I'm sure all of that went on behind the scenes. My story is what I witnessed in the cabin.
