I did. With no regret, considering what he had done.When I was in elementary school, I had this female friend who has intellectual disability. Let’s call her M. Instead of special needs school, somehow the parents got her into this regular private school. And the teacher always made her passed the next grade until graduation even though she can barely write her own name.Mind you, M is of Arabic descent (I live in Indonesia), pretty, and had a body of a grown women (she probably was older than the rest of us). She was shy and quite spoken, sitting by herself. M is constantly bullied by some of my classmates, and mostly ignored by the teachers.There were only about 10 female students in my class. One day after gym class, we went to change clothes in an infirmary room together except M. I dont remember why M was not with us that day. After that we got back to class, and M came a moment later. M then told us that Mr. J, our teacher has sexually molested her. She looked stressed out and stuttered as she spoke. She doesn’t know if it was a sexual abuse, she just described that Mr. J enter the room while she was changing and touched her breasts and “under her skirts”. I was so shocked because my parents always told me that if somebody touches my private like that, it’s wrong and i have to reported it.The other reason i believed M was because when we were changing, Mr. J would sometimes open the window in the room and order us to be quick. It happened twice and it was always when we were half naked. And he would stare at us. Of course we screamed. But we never knew why Mr.J did that and thought we should just hurry.To my surprise, my other girl friends just said that M is crazy and made that story up. Nobody believed her except me and my other friend, G.G and I then decided to report it to our homeroom teacher. She also told us that M is “not well” and likes to make story up.We decided not to give up yet, and then went to M’s parents with M. M lives near our school so we walked there during school break. With her best efforts, M told her parents what happened. The parents seems quite upset and then went to the school to complain.I dont know what happened after that, but soon after, Mr. J was fired. G and I were then called by our teacher who asked us to “never talk about this incident with anyone ever, because it will hurt the school reputation”. I remained silent for a long time as i was afraid of his warning (i was only 10 years old at that time).Looking back, i have no regrets at all. I’m sure Mr.J had molested her for real, and i’m glad the School board did something about it. Just because M is mentally challenged doesn’t mean she’s crazy and made that story up.
