First there are 6 Welfare Programs in the US and they are Not Entilement Programs. So so Social Security Disability is not one of them.Welfare Programs are Discretionary Funds for the Poor and for individuals or families who make 0–24,600(fed poverty level family of 4).Supplemental Security Income -provides cash to help elderly, blind, disabled.Temporary Assistance For Needy Families (TANF)-This is what people used to call welfare. However all of that is gone. It is now done. The maximum amount is $497 for 3 people a month. You can only be on this for two years on average max 5 years. And you must be Welfare to Work Programs. So you have to volunteer or do some sort of school. If not that you will be at the Career Center and applying for jobs.Medicaid- Health Insurance for low income individuals and families. Or for those of you who did not know this fact if you don’t have medical insurance and are not low income but all of a sudden you get sick and have a major medical emergency. You could qualify for this too. Let’s say you were rushed to the hospital and you had a operation. Then you get a 150,000 bill from hospital. Now you know you are supposed to have a bunch of following appointments but you don’t even have health insurance. Let alone money to pay this bill. If you can show to Medicaid that Your Total Monthly Medical Bills. exceed your Total Monthly Income they will give you Insurance as a Paydown/Spendown so you have time to not incur new debt while getting out of medical debt for your emergency. I have personal experience with this and the algorithm is complicated. It is done in quarters so I had something like 12 quarters. And I had to ask for the head of the Medicaid. It basically allowed me to take my income and subtract my medical expenses to become “medically needy” to qualify. However it is a start by state calculation so you have to check your state.Housing Assistance-the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) is a certificate program to rent approved units. This is managed by the Public Housing Authority. This is commonly what you hear about “Section 8”.Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)-The refundable tax credit. Credits are the only items that can supplement your income. Meaning they can reduce your tax liability to zero and actually give you more. But most of them are non-refundable so that once your tax liability gets to zero that’s it you get no more benefits from them. But this one is not. So let’s say you have two kids and qualify for EITC. They withheld 1700 in Feds but your refund is 2800.Food Stamps-Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program.
