It is very difficult to judge the affair of football in our country.Which parameters to consider ?? Lets start by clearing out some hogwash:India’s rise from 173 (March 2015) to 97 (Sept 2017) looks really positive. Though, on digging deep, one realizes how we have exploited the loopholes in FIFA ranking system. Instead of of performing well against better teams, India has cunningly played matches against weaker teams like Mauritius, Guam, Cambodia etc, during the time of the year when most other teams are not playing.AIFF’s 700 cr Deal with Rel-IMG seemed like a positive move when it happened. Again, there is an underbelly to this deal which is not so bright. The recent induction of Sundar Raman (CEO of Reliance Sports), as part of the AIFF’s technical committee is not easily digestible. Giving one’s commercial partners a direct say in the workings of the National Associations is unprecedented and belies general logic.Introduction of ISL- To introduce a league inspired by IPL seemed like a no-brainer at start. But, to roll on such a huge investment without proper road map or a coherent strategy has been baffling. The step-motherly treatment of the I-league teams has been pathetic. The Flag bearers of Indian football like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan,Dempo have been sidelined. Its been almost 4 yrs since ISL’s inception and AIFF still has no clue on how to balance the two leagues.Even the success of ISL is inflated. Statistics show that the league has attracted fans in huge numbers. In fact, it has even been stated, that the numbers were comparable to the best in the world. But, the reality is different. Clubs like Mumbai City FC,Pune FC, have been distributing tickets for free. Tying up with NGOs to bring young kids to the game to inflate the numbers and still the numbers have been dwindling yoy. Except for Kolkata, no other club has seen any notable tickets sales. Even their audience has dropped from 75,000 on the first day to 26,000 in the latest installmentU17 World Cup 2017 - Don’t take me wrong hosting such an illustrious event is an honor, but to say that just one event can change the face of Indian football is stretching it a bit too far. Also, the build up to the event has been totally AIFF like. Sacking Nicolai Adam 9 months before the tournament and replacing him by Luis de Matos, a coach championing a completely different philosophy is another bizarre decision.Youth Football - Most Schools and sports associations in the country are still conducting 11 vs 11 matches for kids as young as 6 yrs old, wherein according to FIFA guidelines, players till the age of 12 should only play Small Sided Games. Only once kids cross 12 yrs should they be introduced to 11 a side games. Though, AIFF can not be directly blamed for such criminality, they have a responsibility and the means to educate school associationsThe AIFF President, After guiding Air India to its knees, Praful Patel is in his third term with the AIFF & like all other politicians it is obvious that he is only in the set up for power and to extend his personal political gains. As was shown by the abrupt appointment of his friend, Babul Supriyo to the WC organising committee.Now, Lets focus on the PositivesAIFF has really started moving where it matters.Coach DevelopmentRealizing that a good production line of players can not happen till we have certified and properly educated Coaches, AIFF has moved with brisk speed to try and bring in all the coaches working in the country under its umbrella by introducing the “Coaches Registration System”.The Coaches in the system are being educated to ensure that correct information and methodology is being used while coaching young playersPlayer Registration SystemAIFF from this season has made it compulsory for all clubs playing in the Official local leagues to give contract to and register their players with the National Association.It is a very positive step as it will kill quite a few birds with one stoneProblem of over age players in youth leaguePlayers can not represent more that one club in any official tournament without official tranfersForces clubs to develop own playersClubs will have to treat players professionalyGenerate Revenue system for clubs who are investing in their youth teams through transfersYouth DevelopmentAIFF has realized that the future of the game lies with the youth, and it has started moving fast to revamp the state of youth football.Elite academies have been setup in various parts of the countries, where the best youth players from the country are being educated.In addition to what has been mentioned above, there is also a mandate for all ISL clubs to improve grassroots football in their home cities.I have been really impressed with the way Mumbai City FC has reached all the nooks & corners of the city through their community program. They have organised many festivals, coach education seminars, helped set up coaching academies.In fact on their own accord, they have negotiated with local school associations in Thane/Nave Mumbai to conduct their school tournaments in the ‘right way’.Scout SystemThe association is in the process of building an excessive network of trained “Football Scouts” to ensure that all parts of the country are covered and no player with potential drops out of the system. They have already had two batches of Scouts trained and more are on the way.SummaryEven though its a headless chicken, AIFF has started moving slowly but surely towards the right direction. By looking at the long term and investing in young coaches & players, they are trying to create a strong foundation for the future.

I’m not sure which country you are from but I’ve heard this is prevalent in many African countries. I would assume it’s because a younger player is more desirable to a team (faster, stronger, increased stamina, etc.) so, by lying about their age, the player increases their chance of being picked.This is not possible in my country (Britain) because even child and youth football is heavily regulated. To play in the South Wales football leagues for my hometown, even at 10 years old, I needed to give them my registration card. To get a registration card I needed to submit my application with my birth certificate. Everything is very official even for young children. No registration? You can’t join a team, you can’t play. At 13 years old I wanted to switch teams because my best friend played for a different club. I needed to request a transfer with my current club and indicate the one I wanted to join. From there, representatives of each club needed to meet to transfer my registration (no fee of course!). All this formality just for a children’s football team! So you see how difficult it would be for players in Britain to lie about their age.I realize the second part wasn’t asked in your question but I thought it worth sharing a different experience in my little part of the world.

Possible, yeah…but there's a few steps along the way, lol.The Parkland kids have done very well with their registration drives, but until they start flipping seats (or even individuals) in places like Tennessee and Montana, the Second Amendment is quite safe.
