PDF Editor FAQ

Has your child ever threatened to report you to the police and gone through with it?

I don’t have kids - but I was witness to a kid who reported his father for abuse. When I was a sheriff’s deputy, I responded to a teen who called Social Services on his father … The kid alleged the man had abused him by making him work without pay and had struck him over a weekend. We investigated and the report was referred to Human Services for additional action. A Social Services representative decided the child (16–17yrs) should be temporarily removed from the home. The kid thought he would get to stay with a friend but the Social Worker placed him in a foster home.Eventually, the Social Worker had to inform the parents and I went with them. The father was a farmer who had worked on his family’s farm all his life. As the Social Worker explained the boy’s accusations and that he was being placed into protective custody. The man stood there quiet while his wife looked on from the doorway. At the end of the Social Service presentation, the man just said, “take him, let’s see if you can raise him?” The social worker asked the man to pack some clothes and requested the boy’s truck keys and other belongings. The father told the Social Services rep, “he’s got nothing here, everything here I payed for - its all mine … He can keep what he left with and you can send me the money …”Allegedly, the son had come home drunk and the next morning his father woke the boy up before sunrise and put him to work (hungover). That’s when the boy decided to call the Sheriff’s office to report his father.I was lucky enough to be present when the boy was returned to the home. The first thing he said was, “where the hell’s my truck?!” The father said, “sold it.” The kid tried to go inside and enlist his mother in his argument - but the old man told him you don’t live in here - he pointed to the temp worker housing and said, you sleep there now. When the kid tried to protest, Social Services told him, the room was inspected and all “changes” were approved.School had let out for the summer and the boy was informed he would work for his meals and clothing from this point on. The kid didn’t need his truck since he’d be working the entire summer. The same kid went on to college and became a lawyer or something - I’m sure he went to school just to get away from the farm work. The father had kept the kid’s things and his mother would sneak them back to the kid a little at a time - I only read this from a follow up report years later.

Has someone ever unjustifiably reported you to Child Protective Services? What was the outcome?

I was unjustly reported to CPS It was a horrifying experience. I have 4 children. I had a job that allowed me to get my children off to school and be home before they got off the bus in the afternoon. My children were healthy and happy. My husband and I are all about family. I was diagnosed with a serious life threatening illness. Suddenly I was unable to attend school functions such as plays concerts sending in party supplies as I had done in the past. I missed parent teacher conferences for the first time in 8 years. Although they can not tell you who reported you it is quite easy to figure it out. The school principal called. The claim was I was neglecting my children. I had to allow CPS to inspect my home. All of the bedrooms bathrooms cabinets refrigerator closets I had to take my children to their pediatrician. This was the worst part. Every time my children get sick there on the first page in their file is a report from CPS. This does NOT go away. The looks and they way you are treated is humiliating. I had to go to the dentist with my children I had 2 unannounced follow up visits. My children were interviewed individually. My youngest told the CPS worker that she is mad because Mommy can't play because she is always throwing up. I was asked if I consume alcohol or drugs. I was receiving chemotherapy. None of their business. After 3 months of stress I certainly did not need. The case was closed. 3 months later it started all over again. You have very little recourse against who is reporting you. Yes here are laws in place for false reporting. But those in the education or medical field hid behind a shield that so called require to report. It's very upsetting. But you have to remain calm and cooperative. Otherwise they will never let go

Is it okay if your parents taken off your door off the hinges when you accidentally locked it?

Whoa. When my daughter was 11 yrs old she would get into a fight with her mother than run in her room and locked the door after a few times I told her next time door comes offLess than a week later there’s another argument and the door gets locked, I got the door open Ed and took it off the hinges, and left it off , about a week later put it back on, about two weeks later we were called to her school, She told her teacher that I removed her door and was upset the teacher sent her to the guidance counselor who requested a meetingNot knowing what the meeting was about the counselor started saying that she heard I removed my daughters door off the hinges, I replied yes I did she kept locking her mom out of her room, She then started telling me I infringed on her privacy by doing so. I laughed saying privacy , she’s 11 yrs old and it’s my house she again repeated I can’t violate her rights, laughing I said I’ll do what the hell I want not yelling but in a stern voice. She then tells me she reported the incident to child protective services,! Laughing I said are you nuts , I want my daughter to have a new guidance counselor and left with my daughterAnother week goes by it’s now 4 weeks or so and it’s about 6 pm and there’s a knock at the door a man gave me his card identifying him as child protective services and he was here investigating a child abuse complaint, I was livid it’s a good thing my wife was able to calm me downHe questioned me about the door and why I did it,Have I ever struck my kids, or put them in danger, then asked me to step outside the house and questioned my wife on how my temperament was and if I ever struck her or my kids, then taking my 11 year old and my 6 year old and questioned them. Then allowed me back into my own house. And then inspected it from the basement to the bathrooms and my garage then asked me to sit down and asked me why was I yelling at the guidance counselor I explained what had happened and if anyone was worried about me beating or abusing my kids why would they wait 4 weeks . The total visit was 2 hoursHe apologized for the inconvenience and said he saw no indication of abuse. BUT as per state regulations that I would be on a 6 month probation family watch .and after 6 months if there were no further incidents the case would be closed . that he was recommending that there was no need for monthly follow ups . But wasn’t allowed to dismiss the probation. For the next 6 months my daughter cried every few days, couldn’t look me in the eye and seem to be afraid of me no matter how often I told her it was not her fault the guidance counselor was at fault but she still was very depressed I now realize that I shouldn’t have told people the story in front of her it probably added to her self guilt I really didn’t mean it.It probably took another 6 months after we received the letter saying there would be no further action. So I’d say remove the lock leave the door alone
