Of course, theirs was to be bigger and better than ours. (She’d once told someone that her children will never drive a nicer car than hers) I was like whatever lady, you’re twice my age, you’re supposed to have better things, because you’ve got more money. She told all of the family about them building a house, but didn’t tell anyone we were. They were all shocked when we told them at Thanksgiving!Fast forward to the building process. She was constantly comparing my $180k home to her $300k home. “what kind of countertops are you getting? Well III’m getting granite.” “What kind of tile are you getting? Well III’m getting travertine.” “What kind of cabinets are you getting? Well III’m getting made-on-site fuckety wood.” You get the picture, right? Everything she had was going to be soooo much better than mine. At one point, I actually said, “I would hope you’re getting all this stuff, your house is almost double the cost of mine!”We’ve now been in our homes for a few years. One of her family members was over at the same time we were and she mentioned how much bigger her house was than ours. I said, “Oh! Actually, ours is about 4 square feet bigger than yours because of the upstairs.” I wasn’t really intending to show off, really just trying to reiterate that our houses were pretty equal in size.Well this chick went and added on a room to her house! She says it’s because she needed a bigger closet and a storm shelter, but I really think she went and dropped another $50k, just to be sure her house was bigger than mine.

Both a blessing and a curse.Kannan is extremely smart. In his school boards he was in the top 800 for all Tamil Nadu. He did well in undergrad. He got a 4.0 (highest marks) for his masters in the US.And I'm very average. Sure I earned a 3.989 and was inducted into an honor society for being in the top 10% of my university, but he's much smarter than I am.Right now we are buying a car and, while I look at colors and sizes and reliable brands, he looks at benefits. Like this one model he has his eyes on will allow us to get a sticker to use the carpool lane because of its environmentally friendly rating. I didn't even know that existed.One day we went for a walk and he spent the whole time explaining how transformers and electrical grids work.If you ask even a small question about air conditioning or heating, you are guaranteed at least an hour long explanation from him.When we go to the grocery store, he never needs a list. I make categorized lists by aisle to get in and out as fast as possible because I hate shopping. He has an extremely good memory and doesn't need a single note.He knows an extensive amount regarding mechanical engineering, software engineering, and even aeronautical engineering. He passed an extremely tough engineering licensing exam earlier this year that has an average preparation time of 6–8 months. He skimmed a book for review and passed it in the first attempt.The only stupid thing he's ever done was choosing me 😂

One time many years ago my family and I went away for the weekend…We come back and our backdoor to our house had been opened by breaking the window on the door. My then wife and I..noticed all around the house had been gone thru and a mess…mostly in the kitchen area. Missing many items…the blender toaster and microwave oven and other thingsI won't go into detail of the rest of the house…My father taught me many years before…that if you have items and you paid good money for it..is to mark them in case the police arrest anyone on a future house breakin and they have many items in their possession. He said in a place that can't be seen by the naked eye..put your name on itFast forward..my wife and I go to a yard sale. When we get to one that's about two blocks from our house..we notice several items that looked like what we had in our kitchen. I took heed of my father said to do..read above. I began looking at the items and look at them and acted interested in buying them and looked at area where I put my name on an item and sure enough my name was on it…plus on other items as wellThis yard sale had many duplicate itemsThe people who were holding the yard sale…looked and acted very strange when I inspected items very carefully..the guy asked if I wanted to buy anything and I commented how could he sell something that's not his but mine in the first placeMy wife in the background was on the phone with the police and they came out. Come to find out there had numerous house break-ins in the area including mineThe couple were arrested for such..when I showed the cops of my handy work on the kitchen appliances
