PDF Editor FAQ

Have you experienced sexual discrimination?

Yes, but in a bit of a bizarre way. This is something that I’ve never really been able to figure out, genuinely, and it’s actually the exact reason I ended up playing rugby rather than American football or hockey.I don’t understand the rule differences in sport between men’s teams and women’s teams. My specific beef is with the aforementioned American football and hockey.Namely, the rules of physical contact are different. I have never seen a girls’ American football league that wasn’t flag football - i.e., no tackling. In women’s hockey, you can’t check. This makes absolutely no sense to me.I mean, I could theoretically see in a co-ed league, where you have both men and women playing together, why you’d want to have some limiting rules on physical contact. Generally speaking, men are stronger and thus hit harder, which would give them a clear advantage over female opponents. And, of course, with little kids, there should be rules on tackling and checking so that they don’t hurt themselves. This makes sense. But why the hell can’t women tackle women in a female-only American football league, and why the hell can’t women check women in a female-only hockey league? That’s fucked up.It pissed me off.I played rugby instead, where there are no differences in the rules between the genders. And you are expected to tackle.(Basically, I just wanted to hit somebody.)Guess what? Nobody’s ovaries broke.Mysterious.

What is locker-room talk?

Apparently it’s Mr. Trump’s code for “I didn’t mean you to hear it, so no fair holding it against me.”Do men sometimes let their guard down when no women are around? Sure.I used to regularly go the gym with an Agee who’d been a cheerleader in college and liked to talk about how uncouth and vulgar the girls on the squad were.I was in Lion’s Club for a while with a young man who constantly talked about “chicks,” but we are all, to this day, pretty sure there was something wrong with him.I once watched my boss make an ass of himself asking my colleague (over the phone) if he’d seen the new girl they’d hired and describing what a babe she was…before realizing he was on speaker (he apologized profusely, and she was very sweet about it, and we all thought it a shame when she left to raise a family a couple of years later, because she was the sharpest engineer on the department. In college…hmm…I got nothing. No one was unguarded about anything, at any time. Although my room mate did warn me about this one girl that, “A girl like that will only break your heart,” which she did, but hearts need a few chinks along the way.The closest I can come to Trump’s comments was in seventh grade, when Lisa Jobran’s bra apparently failed during dodge ball and Charlie Pierce, famous for almost scoring for the opposing team during a flag-football game almost wet himself telling us about it (in an actual locker room). Charlie wasn’t as crude as Mr. Trump, though. I think he used the word, “bazoongas.” There may have been something wrong with him, too, I think of it.But was Mr. Trump’s boasting of how he had attempted adultery “like a bitch” and how he can get away with sexual assault because he’s a celebrity, “locker room talk?” Was it regrettable, but “people say it?”’No, Mr. Trump, it was not locker room talk, it was juvie lockup talk. “People” don’t say it. The plural noun you are looking for, sir, is not “people,” but “ass-wipes.”

Should men take it easy on women in co-ed sports?

Easy? No. However, one plays fair and to win.I have played Co-Ed Flag Football, soccer and played on a Co-Ed fast pitch softball team in a nominally all male league (we made it to the finals). The soccer and fast-pitch softball were easy in that those are contact sports and not collision sports. For the co-ed flag football, the league had rules to keep it fair. One of them was that if “blocked” we had to run around the opponent, but the opponent had to establish position (e.g. like in basketball). On one punt, I was running down field to get the opposing player with the ball when one of their female players (the team captain) stepped in front of me at the last moment. I literally ran her over on the way to the player with the ball. She ran over to the referee, and I can still picture the referee looking at her and then at me and then turning to her and saying: “Why would you Ever step in front of Stagliano?”Our team motto was: “We will Always give you half the distance to the goal line…..”Needless to say we won the league championship and our female players were Awesome!!!
