PDF Editor FAQ

Is it NEVER EVER disrespectful to hand out a regular picture of another person?

You are a talent agent and represent actors. You send your client’s photos to casting directors. You are a detective trying to find a criminal or lost child. You are a portrait photographer and you have signed model releases from past clients to use their portraits in your advertising. If you are walking around distributing or emailing photos of other persons without their express consent, and it’s not part of your job, my opinion is that it would ALWAYS ALWAYS be rude and disrespectful and maybe creepy. For what it’s worth. If I understand the question.

Which #metoo accusations turned out to be false?

I just heard about this preposterous #metoo protest today. Another example of the PC police going overboard…Above is the “Unconditional Surrender” statue that sits near the marina on a busy corner of Sarasota FL. It is based on the well known B&W photo taken in Time Square NY on V-J (victory over Japan) Day, Aug 14, 1945. A random sailor home on leave came out of a movie theater when the announcement was made that the war was at long last over. People were milling about in throngs celebrating, drinking and releasing all the tensions and pent up emotions of 4 years of the US being at war. If the war had continued the soldier would have been sent back to the Pacific and once more been in harm’s way.The sailor in the photo passed away just this week. He was a stranger to the nurse he kissed that day, and the nurse had no issues with the kiss, a moment which was captured for posterity by a photographer recording the joyous spontaneity of that day. According to news reports, in later years, he reconnected with that nurse and they kept up a friendly correspondence until she passed away a few years ago.So where’s the outrage that so upsets me!? Yesterday, some damned moron climbed the statue and spray painted “#metoo” on the nurse’s leg. Seems there is now a move afoot to remove the statue because the man grabbed the nurse and without her consent kissed her. Have we really become that hypersensitive and politically correct that we are talking about taking down a statue dedicated to a moment like that, one that took place 75 years ago??

Legally, can a person withdraw consent for photos? Consenting to being photographed verbally, then doesn't want them to be part of an art show.

Don’t people sign model releases when they pose for a photographer? I thought that a written agreement was required. Not an attorney, but that was my understanding, that a photographer was supposed to get a model release for any commercial photography. This does not apply to vacation photos posted on line that might have someone in the background.
