This happened last year. My husband was discharged 4 days after major surgery. We were all excited that the surgery went well and was busy planning a small family reunion. 2 days after the discharge, my father-in-law complained of chest pain. I rushed him to the hospital and it was found to be a second heart attack. My father-in-law was also hospitalized for 4 days. We were happy that he received excellent treatment and responded well to all the medicines.During his entire stay, my father-in-law was very agitated and refused to listen to the doctors. He was constantly complaining about my husband and told them he is the sole reason for the heart attack. After his tirade ended, I blasted my father-in-law to stop complaining about their son. It was after all their son whose paying all the hospital bills. My father-in-law doesn’t have a credit card, debit card, and never cared to purchase any insurance policy for himself. He asked the hospital authorities if cheques were accepted and they politely declined. After knowing that his checkbook is of no use, my father-in-law kept quiet for a few seconds.His hate speech started by threatening me with a tight slap across my cheekbones and how dare I raise my voice. He went on to state that his wife is very innocent. I completely support him that his innocent wife is happily watching TV while the 2 most important men in her life are hospitalized. This irked him even more but I felt that he deserved it.After my father-in-law was discharged, the doctor requested him to come for a follow-up appointment. During his entire stay, my father-in-law continued to bitch about his son to all my relatives. My parents tried their level best to calm him down but their efforts went in vain. The old man behaved in a very arrogant manner, humiliated my parents by saying that your daughter is a useless lady. My parents were shell shocked by his behavior.In all their visits to our home, my in-laws constantly criticized our decision of purchasing a car, traveling by flights for holidays, and paying high rents. All this while we were a double income couple living in a modest 2 bedroom house in a decent neighborhood. My in-laws never objected when we took them on 4 holidays, paid for all their trains and fight travels and hotel accommodation. I could sense their double standards early on in my marriage but never bothered.After this incident, I have cut all my ties with my in-laws and husband’s sister. I have no feelings or emotions left for them. My in-laws wanted me to apologize for my behavior and I refused to do so. I am thankful that my husband supported my decision. Though my in-laws complained about my behavior, my husband only said what they have done was beyond words. He said it is uncouth to criticize their daughter-in-law while living under her roof, eating the food prepared by her parents, and then complaining to her parents.

Generally PF is 12% of basic salary. So add the employer contribution of PF to your CTCEmployer PF: 36000Phone allowance: 6000What all is taxable now?The HRA will be tax exempt to 40% of basic salary- 120000 per year is tax free.My PF contribution is tax free- 36000Employer PF contribution is tax free - 36000I have a car, so 1600 per month of conveyance allowance is tax free I.e. 19200 per year is tax free.Leave travel allowance is tax-free if I show bills for travel within India.Health insurance premium is also tax-free.If I do not have any tax saving investments, the rest of my money is taxable. Edit your RDs!! Put them in a better way.I’ve worked out your problem quickly in Excel and come up with a 5 year plan to achieve your goal. These are intuitive plan that I’ve made relating to how I save money. Please excuse if there are errors or miss outs.First of all, for your Sister’s marriage, you have to save 400,000. Put another RD for that which will mature in 15 months. Considering that the general interest for RD is 7.9%, here’s the plan:This adds on to your monthly expenses. Considering all the other expenses that you have, here’s the monthly plan. I’ve put food expenses as 5000, which means that you should cook at home and not party. Maintenance includes car maintenance, petrol for car, WiFi and Phone bills. Miscellaneous expenses include medical bills, travel etc. This means you have to totally cut down partying, and being spend thrift. (I hope you don’t have kids) And trust me, it’s possible in Bangalore and doing that is worth the goal you have! Here’s the monthly plan:Now let’s split the goal into 2 parts. First for the initial 15 months where you’ve to save for your sister’s marriage. Then the rest of the 5 years where you can add on those to the total savings. Here’s the RD for first 15 months where you save for sister’s marriage. I advise you 2 things here. Firstly move to a smaller home where rent is around 12000 per month (Optional). Edit your RD amount and make it 17000 pm (if you don’t move to a house with 12000 rent) or 20000 pm (if you do):Now once the first 15 months are over, for the next 45 months you can increase the RD amount to 42,000 (17,000 you were putting earlier + 25,000 after sister’s marriage)These are very simple calculations done using simple interest and RD of 7.9%. What I mean to say is that this is the least you can get. Considering the fact that you can put mutual funds or other investment methods which will give you about 10% per year interest and you’ll have salary hikes, you can achieve your goal even in 4 years 6 months or even less!
