Left them on the porch (we were in the middle of a hurricane) changed the locks and prayed he didn't come back.I could write a book on all the signs, excuses and drama cheating has caused in my life.But I'm free at last and will stay free so I don't have to hear the bullshit ever again.**Update***Ok to all the inquiring minds, I wouldn't let him back, although I was all up and down on the guilt trip he rode on me, I became numb, I'm still numb from many more years of the same kind of relationship abuse and more.I have chosen to stay free. Especially if all that pain.And to the one who said they would be mad as hell, think about this, if you are being serial cheated on, you get to a point that you give up, you no longer snoop, chase,check up, argue etc.. you just patiently wait for your freedom time to come.I have learned from all my mistakes, especially after being beaten,left for dead and scared to death how the bills would get paid, your life and your children's lives are most important. Get with the program, asshole.”Then a Marine colonel came on and summed it up smoothly, “We have lots of friends in Congress. Need I say more?”In 2000, two V-22 Ospreys went down, killing 23 Marines. In 2001 Marine Lieutenant Colonel Odin Lieberman, commander of a V-22 squadron, was relieved of command after he instructed his unit to falsify maintenance records to make the aircraft appear more reliable. Three more USMC officers were shit-canned in the falsification scandal.Hey, “the most fantastic military innovation” needed all the help it could get.Budget. Hold onto your wallet. The development budget was first planned for $2.5 billion in 1986, which suddenly increased to a projected $30 billion in 1988—Congressional approval kicking in. By 2008, $27 billion had been spent on the program and another $27.2 billion was required to complete planned production numbers. That’s 20 times the original budget.OK, I admit it. Quite normal in the defense universe. However, Osprey costs approximately double the costs of equivalent rotorcraft.During testing from 1991 to 2000, there were four crashes resulting in 30 fatalities. Operational, “front line” Ospreys have suffered 12 accidents with a total of 42 fatalities. Back on 20 July 1992, in front of a large audience of supportive congressmen, a V-22′s right engine failed, causing it to crash into the Potomac River, killing all seven aboard.Oops.The main problem is that when landing, Osprey’s massive rotors stir up something called Vortex Ring State. Simply put, as the V-22 descends vertically to land, it destroys its own lift. Shreds it. Its maximum rotor downwash is above 80 knots, more than the 64 knots lower limit of a hurricane! Not a bad name for it, actually. Oh, already taken.So you see it really isn’t the technology that’s the problem. It’s what the technology does to the natural element, the air. The exhaust from its Rolls Royce Allison turboshafts is so violent, the Navy must put down temporary shields on carrier decks prior to a V-22 landing lest the decks be torn up.But it does look coo-ool.In aviation, the V-22 is what’s known as an “unforgiving” craft. It punishes a sloppy pilot with death. Only long, intensive training of its pilots allows this tiltrotor disaster to be operated “safely.”The thing that is so discouraging is that there was no need for the piece of shit in the first place. None! Right there on the shelf was a highly competent aircraft which had been flying for half a century. Which had been battle-tested in Viet Nam, the Iran-Iraq War and the Falklands War.This would be the seasoned Boeing CH-47D Chinook helicopter. Yes, it does fly about 75 knots slower than the V-22 and has half the range. But Chinook can carry a greater payload and, more important than numbers, this helicopter has provided decades of reliable service, the V-22 has not.OK, OK, Mr. Answer Dude, are you through trashing this innovative marvel? Good. Now take a look at sleek Osprey with its massive, black, tilting rotors. Hot! So much sexier than dumpy ol’ grandmotherly Chinook! Yuck.Well, twenty-four countries fly dumpy ol’ grandmother, including Iran.And sexy Osprey? Just one: Japan.When the Israelis were offered Osprey they said, uh, thanks but no thanks. We’ll pass. We’re sticking with our trusty ol’ Chinooks.And that’s precisely what we Americans should have done.Important Update:Osprey was sold to the military as filling the need for a rotorcraft that could fly long range missions. Yet the Army chose six Chinooks and two AH-64 Apaches to fly its stunning long range Delta Force raid on 26 October 2019 that killed ISIS leader al-Baghdadi.Ol’ Dumpy’s still rendering outstanding service 57 years after her birth.The FutureDo I believe in Long Range Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL)? Absolutely! Despite what you’ll read in Comments, I am not an aviational Neanderthal.I believe Long Range VTOL will be nimble “multi-copters” like Skai (link below), but probably not Skai itself.
