Thanks for the A2A.A brief background: Pakistan Occupied Kashmir as we call it, they call it Azad Kashmir. Pakistan grabbed this piece of land from India during the 1948 War. Prior to Kashmir acceding to India, they invaded and took vast areas of land. Instead of us conducting a Hot PUrsuit and taking back out land the then (great) PM of India approached the UN regarding Pakistan's misadventure. Since then this area of around 13,000 sq. km has remained in the hands of Pakistan.I'll talk about the difference from an economic stand point as this can be the major factor which can be the best distinguishing factor:POK: Pakistanis call it Azad Kashmir but they are not truly Azad (or free). This part of the land is treated in the same way they treat the rest of the parts of their country. They have no freedom and no rights, in other words - no democracy.The main profession of the people in this region is agriculture and is quite literate with around 60% literacy. This region has been flooded with the Pakistani citizens that changed the demographics of POK.Now lets compare it to rest of J&K:The current goal of GOI for J&K is development (apart from combating terrorism). As you can see from the statistics below and compare it with POK, J&K is much better off. They have witnessed the growing power of their state economy and democracy as their numbers for voting has increased every time. The economics of the state is steadily improving YOY basis.The current spate of violence in the state has left me dumbfounded. During the floods, it was the Army who came to their rescue and not a single separatist leader or the so-called supporters came forward to help the Kashmirs and now these same people are battling the Indian security personnel.
