Cyber security has unbelievable job security.A few years ago one of my coworkers decided he wanted a new job and applied for 10 interesting positions. He had 8 interviews in a week and 2 offers the next week. He was smart but not a rock star. The job market has gotten much better since then.In the 8 years I've worked on security teams, I've never been on a team where my director didn't have multiple open headcount. WARNING - YOU MIGHT BECOME SMARTER if you study :)The worst thing that will happen to you, is that you will be smarter than your friend. :)There are two type of people1st Type: Who studies dump, because they are really dump. Simple. They are lazy bunch of people who thinks, just having certs will be enough. That they will learn on the job, may be but not sure. These people are the reason why value of cert is going down.2nd Type: Are those who really know what they are doing and really spend time learning the technologies. So why they use dump? To Save Hard Earning Money.Very few people will ever pass Cisco exams without dump on first attempt. Sure after 3rd or 4th you may end up passing but I can assure you very few people does pass on 1st without dump (almost 99% are like this)Who’s fault is this? I would say both Cisco and Us.$300 for a basic CCNA exam for guys who does not even have a job yet is extremely difficult, even more if that person is from Asia or Africa. $300 US in Bangladesh for example is 24,000 taka (local currency) that is a monthly average salary of a Intermediate level engineer. How do you expect that person to lose his/her entire month income on 1 exam and without any assurance that he/she does not have to do it again? So people start to cheat.Why we are to blame? we created that demand for Cisco. Instead of investing on knowledge first, we invested on Cisco. Therefore they see a huge demand to increase their price. from $125 per exam to $300. That is a huge jumpA honest hard working engineer in India/Pakistan or Nigeria, who actually studies and learn but goes to the exam room knowing that if they fail, not only will they lose that $300 but have to arrange another $300 to do it again that too without guaranteed. So they are forced to cheat.What is my opinion:Screw Cisco, Cheat go ahead But make sure you know your stuff first.Study like you enjoy it and make it a hobbyMake sure you breath the technologyMake sure you repeat 100 time if needed.Teach other people (free) so you gain confidentHelp write blog about the same topic thus increase your brandMake your self subject matter expertise.Become a person who even CCIE will come to learn fromInvest in your knowledge first with all the money you can.When you become bore with such technology, move to another oneAdd new skills every 2 to 6 monthsLearn to manage and organize your timeIncrease your presentation skills by giving free training, helping othersWhen you have done and invest all these, than go an buy the dump and pass the exam. Not only you will increase your chance of saving your $300 but you will also be satisfied.NO CERTIFICATION IS NEEDED to Succeed.Take me for an example: I am banned from Cisco for life. Depend on your age.If you are young below 30, I would say focus on MS. Than follow by Cisco.I invested $30,000 in my life to get Cisco Certifications and yet Cisco banned me 10 years ago - according to them I violated their NDA by disclosing information about CCIE Voice Exam which I never wrote (I wrote version 3.5, 3 years before they banned me) so how in the world did I violate the current version at the time which was version 4.3.Invest in your MS first. Because no one takes degree way from you. If Cisco goes down or file for bankruptcy (always possible) than your certification is valuelessInvest in your knowledge not on Cisco. Cisco will come and go. But your knowledge will always remain with youCisco can ban and revoke your certification at will but they can not take your knowledgeThough I was banned from Cisco 10 years ago,I have 6 Figure income while working 6 months a yearI still teach Cisco and taught CCIEI have made 10+ Cisco eBooks which I sell for $500 to $1500.
