PDF Editor FAQ

What caused James' desire for improvement, in your opinion?

My opinion is that as the First Wizarding War grew worse, along with what Lily said in Snape's Worst Memory scene, caused James to reexamine himself. He saw how immature he was being and this led to him working to improve himself.Granted, this improvement didn't extend to his interactions with Snape, but there was too much bad blood between them at that point.

Why was Snape sorted into Slytherin?

No. Just because someone is brave, it doesn’t automatically make them a Gryffindor. The hat doesn’t just consider the traits you have, but also the traits you value. For instance, not every loyal person is a Hufflepuff.Snape wanted to be in Slytherin and scoffed at James’ desire to get into Gryffindor by saying that Gryffindors were brawny and not brainy. This shows that at least at the time of his sorting, he looked down on Gryffindor as the dumb house, so of course the hat would not sort him in a house whose traits he did not value at the time.Slytherins are more manipulative, cunning and calculative, traits that Snape has. Gryffindors are more reckless and impulsive. Snape is hardly reckless and impulsive. He seems to be someone who thinks his actions through.

Isn't it ridiculous that some Snape fans argue that Sirius Black only turned on Severus Snape because he was afraid of James Potter?

Is this question referring to the first train ride? Oh sure, Sirius Black was brave enough to go against his dark family who beheaded house elves but he was “afraid” of an 11 year old kid his own age. You know, the big monster James who scared him more than Walburga Black and Bellatrix. Please. Sirius turned on Snape because he viewed Snape as everything he hated about his Slytherin family.Sirius had no reason to be afraid of James. If he sided with Snape, it would have been 3 against 1. But apparently Sirius was so afraid that James was powerful enough to take on 3 three people. I’ve honestly been told that James responding with “you got a problem with that” to Snape’s disparaging noise at Gryffindor is equivalent to a death threat. If Sirius really was afraid of James or was put off by his behavior, he wouldn’t have let himself be sorted into the house that James desired being sorted into. He would have kept away from him. Sirius teased Snape on his own accord. If this question refers to Sirius’ hatred for Snape in general, oh sure, Sirius was “going along” with James when he set Snape up to be eaten by a werewolf. Sirius was “going along” with James when he joined in the attack in Snape’s Worst Memory. In fact, James forced Sirius to join in. He didn’t make Remus and Peter join, but Sirius somehow felt the need to join because he was so afraid of James. James was delusional when he thought attacking Snape would liven Sirius up. Oh, and Sirius pretended to look at Snape as if he was looking at a prey (as noted in the book). And he was pretending to laugh too.Oh, and when they were adults, Sirius had to be hostile towards Snape even yeas after James’ death because he was afraid of James’ dead soul beating him up. See how ridiculous it sounds? So yes, it is ridiculous. James is responsible for James. Sirius is responsible for Sirius. It’s really ridiculous to be boiling Sirius’ clearly murderous hatred for Snape (that James himself didn’t have) to “going along with James” or “being afraid of James”.
