Someone reposted this picture from the Facebook page “Obama Is Officially The Worst President In American History!” onto my Facebook page along with the declaration that here is proof Obama took away college tuition benefits from military and veterans and gave them to illegal aliens.Hundreds of people ostensibly believed Obama was actually able to do this without Congress repealing some old and passing some new laws, not to mention the protests you’d hear from current military and vets. Most lamented this proves just how screwed up Obama’s priorities are.These are probably the same people who believe that Trump can build a wall at the US border and send the bill to Mexico.I couldn’t let this go by without some rebuttal —under a Federal Law, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996 (Sec. 505) states are prohibited from providing a postsecondary education benefit to an alien not lawfully present in the United States on the basis of residence unless any U.S. citizen or national is eligible for the same benefit. So as far as the Feds are concerned, illegal aliens cannot get better tuition benefits than American citizens. This 20 year old law would need to be substantively repealed for this to actually happen. And in any case, Congress wouldn’t allow this cherished traditional benefit dating back to World War II to be taken away from our military. Almost everyone in Congress has a military base in their state or district.

Then some of them would cry discrimination. However, no court shall intervene in the matter.
