You have to look at why they are wanting to do a background check. Ostensibly, it’s to prevent criminals from getting guns, and that would be great: but if they were the case, then you’d expect every failed background check to be answered with sirens blaring and an arrest, after all, a criminal tried to buy a gun. But it doesn’t happen.Why?The answer is the real purpose of the background check system: to get government involvement in on as many lawful transfers as possible so as to build a database of gun owners. This is a necessary component to weapon confiscation: if policemen were to search house to house, the uproar would shut the program down in a heartbeat. But if they could go directly to the homes of those who failed to turn in their weapons, make an arrest and show the “deadly arsenal” on TV, well then they could keep it going.In short, background checks are a good idea if it weren’t for the real agenda: gun grabbers are the single biggest impediment to simple background checks for gun purchases. Consider for a moment the Third Amendment: “No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.” Now, the government maintains a list of who lives where, from tax rolls to white pages, there’s numerous lists of private homes, but it doesn’t cause any 3rd amendment concerns because there’s no intent to violate the 3rd amendment. But the Second? Intent to violate it is rampant, even to the point where it very nearly was washed out of the constitution by a SCOTUS ruling that only saved the right by a 5–4 vote.And before you think that this is the ravings of a paranoid, note the government is supposed to destroy all records of background checks after a short period, yet routinely is caught violating it and the Dems are constantly hounding on how unreasonable it is that they can’t keep records…

Murder ought to be illegal. Consenting adults buying and selling stuff ought to be legal. A government bent on disarming its own citizens should frighten anyone with a sense of history.

First thing - what you did is an absolute wrong thing to do. These things can haunt you for a long time.There are employers that do not consider the current pay to decide on the offer pay. Good companies and intelligent hiring managers do understand the prevalent pay for people with certain skill sets and experience.So, next time, have confidence in yourself and please do not resort to taking short-cuts like this.Having said that, chance of this surfacing in a background check is low as per my understanding. Typically, background checks involve calling the previous manager, or a team member (you may have specified some references in the background check consent document) and an HR contact person.Usually, all they do is to verify information that you might have provided regarding the employment period, designation and maybe educational qualifications. Background checking services are outsourced, and I have rarely seen any of the people calling me (to verify reg my ex-team members) showing much interest in any detailed info (I am guessing the calling operator might have a target of finishing 'x' number of calls per day, rather than uncovering as much information as possible :-).I cannot speak for HR verification though. I am not sure what they check with HR contacts. But for anyone, even those from HR, it is difficult to remember salary numbers of various employees and validate it against a given number, in a phone call.
