Does a SaaS early stage startup need general liability insurance? Work is done remotely. No physical location.

One of our longest-held (and best-liked by all who work here) corporate clients is a global reinsurance giant — basically they’re a superpower like the US, but without nukes and with more money.Anyway, at one of our early get-to-know-you lunches a while back, a member of their delegation was (and is) a corporate honcho from one of their North American industrial subsidiaries**. He introduced himself as a life-long insurance guy who started as an insurance salesman in a strip mall, and later did general liability policies for small and midsized companies. For a decade, he ran our client’s general liability reinsurance risk management division. So he knew liability insurance.Making conversation, I explained that we were/are a small consultancy that did/does a lot of travel and on-site work with clients, but we only have one office, less than 20 employees, and a terrifyingly short client list who continually hire us enough to keep us in business for more than 15 years. So I asked.Me:“How much general liability insurance do we really need? Do we even need indemnity coverage, or total litigation coverage? We’ve never had a claim and nobody’s even hinted that they want to sue us.”Reinsurance Client / Subsidiary Honcho:“Before I joined [REDACTED], I developed a pretty sophisticated calculator to predict the answers to the questions you just asked. We still use something like it now, but it’s a little more sophisticated.”Me:“I’d love to see it — either of them. Does it take long?”RE Client / Honcho:“There’s a questionnaire, some processing, the usual. You want to try it out?”Me:“Totally. I’ll have our scheduler contact your office to set it up…”RE Client / Honcho:“No schedule necessary. We can do it right here. Ready?”Me: [Confused…]RE Client / Honcho:“Great. Starting on the general liability section. Ready? Good. Question #1…”Me:[Furiously looking for my notebook and/or attention of my business partners…]RE Client / Honcho:“Need for General Liability Coverage. Checklist, Item A: Are you in a business where humans interact in any way?”Me:[Nervous chuckle…] “Yes, I would say humans are a critical part of our firm.”RE Client / Honcho:”Great. End of Need for General Liability Coverage checklist, End of Section. Now calculating… Yes, you need general liability insurance.”Me:[Trying to act like I knew this was all a setup] “Of course! Because humans sue each other. For everything. And humans have things happen to them that money sometimes makes what happened less unhappy. But how about the part where I asked how much coverage I need?”RE Client / Honcho:”Coverage? No calculator for that necessary. Just think of what it would cost to to start a new, similar sized business, pay your employees, find clients or revenue to keep things going, and whatever profit the partners take off the top. Triple whatever number you get to. That’s the ideal General Liability coverage to carry for a low-risk, non-retail, services-only small operation. If you can’t afford the premiums on triple, call their competitor. If that doesn’t work, call me.”I didn’t call the competition — I asked him to arrange a sales call with someone he liked in the general liability area of our client’s business, and he’s been our agent ever since. Good price, never used it still.** Footnote: This company is so massive that their subsidiaries rarely are organized by geographic location, because even the subsidiaries are international corporations. They have a Global Shipping Group, which has shipping insurers (and shipping companies!) as subsidiaries. Scary-big.

The University of Waterloo had never heard of him.Continue to read and decide yourself, Is Canada is dying or is it dead already?Sir/Madam: Canada is already dead, we worked all our lives, all our family from scratch, starting with zero. At the end of the tunnel, it is light, but it is a train coming towards us.A few thoughts before you view this article/answer.1. Canada’s weak and full of flaws immigration system open to abuse, we have heard/seen unbelievable stories, where some fake refugees and illegal and ex-druggies just cleaned enough before passing the test to enter this country.2. The question is not about my success or failure; the problem is: Is Canada dying?3. I do not need anyone’s suggestion to Move, my family and I have put almost fifty years of blood/sweat/tears, we are not here to move. FYI, we are deep-rooted here and very successful in our own right. We are hopefully here for forever, rest assured. Also, BTW, I do not need your suggestions, I have enough qualifications to fill a couple of lines and make my own decisions. It will save Canada if we all Canadians can find a solution:To keep druggies/alcoholics/ and school drop out/terrorists/welfare moocher/medical tourism/baby delivery tourism outJust a note: Before you write a nonsense comment. It is not about my family or me, my glass is full, not half full. And declare me or my family a loser. FYII have achieved all my missions, and my list is all done in every field, acquiring grad degrees, sending kids to Ivy league, helping parents back home and taking care of the grandkids.Sure there were very many roadblocks, in early 70 S this was lily white country, to make a living and survive was not easy.Once again the question: Is Canada dying? My answer and in my evaluation, it is dead already. In case you different ideas please try to write your own arguments.Further in my views:Canada will pass on a lot of debt and no legacy to the coming generations. Barren lands/empty oceans/mines/ stripe the country of natural resources one by one.4. Write your own loser story or maybe a success story, if you have one and fill your profile for a change which in most cases are empty. Most likely there is nothing worth mentioning.5. It takes thousands or millions of man-hours to build an airplane/buildings and billions of dollars of the asset, and all it takes a few losers to blow it, remember 9/11(total cost 100 s billions to the USA) and Air India, 182 (Total cost/damage to Canada 100 s of millions). It takes 100, 000 s, of men/women to make and it takes a few to destroy it.6. Canada is great because it is gullible, good for mooching/sucking the system, going on welfare and very eager to give Canadian passport. In certain suburbs of Toronto and Toronto, there are huge families on the welfare and mooching system with no plan ever to work.7. In case Mighty USA is going under rest assured Canada is not far behind, and the USA knows it is going under bit by bit therefore if the USA is dying then by logic Canada is dead already. Now let me please express my views based on fifty years, in case you have something to express if do not see any value in mine. The Canadian health care system is dysfunctional and sucks. What does Free Health Insurance in Canada mean? In some provinces, you pay Health Insurance premium, unless you’re on a minimum income. The Canada Health Act does not cover prescription drugs, home care or long-term care, prescription glasses or dental care. Costs for prescription drugs come out of your own pocket unless you have extended Health Insurance. Lots of people can only afford extended insurance when it’s paid by their employer. And, learn to be patient; it’s not unusual to be on a two-year waiting list until you get surgery. People who have the money often go to the US to have surgery done. Why increasing DB pension coverage at work should be part of the solution The number of Canadians over 65 is set to double by 2036 according to Statistics Canada – in fact, the fastest-growing segment of the Canadian population is made up of people over 85. As Canadians age, more of us are heading into our senior years financially ill-equipped to adequately support ourselves when our working lives end. A stark illustration of this has been set out in a slew of new statistics and studies that show poverty among seniors is on the rise once again after nearly two decades of decline. This should be a warning sign for policymakers: without action to address gaps in the retirement income system and strengthen access to pensions, Canada faces a bleak future, with more seniors living in poverty and unable to climb out. Such a scenario will have profound consequences for the ongoing economic and social wellbeing of Canadians. In this paper, we provide highlights from a growing body of statistics and research on senior poverty in Canada and its impact on the most vulnerable Canadians. We also call on policymakers to strengthen the workplace pension system in Canada -- and to draw on the experience and knowledge of Canada’s biggest pension investors to develop workable solutions. In doing so, we can truly strengthen to retirement system and collectively work together to prevent the growth of senior poverty in the future. Part 1: Not ready for retirement Two key shifts have contributed to the rise of senior poverty in Canada: demographics combined with the steady decline of workplace pension coverage. Canadians are living longer than ever before: the life expectancy for both men and women is now 80.2 years (77.8 years for men, 82.6 for women). The number of seniors is also growing at a faster rate than any other segment of the population -- by 2041 it is estimated that 25% of Canadians will be seniors, with those over 85 leading the way (Statistics Canada). How will this growing cohort support themselves financially when they can no longer work? Traditionally, Canadian workers could rely on Canada’s retirement system – often described as a three-legged stool made up of government benefits, workplace pensions, and private savings. Today, however, that stool is a lot less steady as workplace pension plans, once an income staple for many seniors, continue their retreat. In 1977, nearly half of Canadian paid employees (46 per cent) belonged to an employer pension plan – in 2014 that number was 33 per cent. What keeps us awake at night? Top issues in CanadaWhat keeps us awake: Top national issuesNOVEMBER 21, 2016By Bruce Anderson & David ColettoIn our latest survey of national opinion, we explored the issues people are concerned about across Canada today.• One in three (34%) say that economic conditions in general are the most important issue facing Canada today. This is the number one concern of 47% in Alberta, and a much smaller 27% in BC.• Another 9% say unemployment is their biggest preoccupation. Again, this number is 17% in Alberta, making it the second ranked issue in that province. This means that roughly two out of three (64%) Albertans put the economy and unemployment on the top of the priority list, almost twice as many as do across the country overall (34%).• Health care ranks as the 2nd most important issue among people over 45, but only ties for 4th among those under 45.• In BC, housing is the 3rd most important issue. In Ontario, housing is only the 6th most important issue. In the other provinces, less than 1% mention it as the top issue. Across the country, housing garners twice as many mentions as top issue among those under 45 compared to those over that age.• Immigration is considered the most important issue by 5%, terrorism 2% and foreign policy or defence 1%. Concern about immigration twice as high in Manitoba/Saskatchewan as it is in Ontario.• The environment/climate change is considered the top issue by 8% nationally. Women and those under 45 put a greater emphasis on this issue than men and older people, but the differences are modest. This issue ranks 5th among men and tied for 4th among women. BC leads in concern on this issue. The preoccupations of Canadians vary substantially based on their partisan leanings.• Among NDP voters, the top 3 mentions, were the economy (27%) poverty/inequality (25%) and the environment/climate change (14%).• Among Conservatives, the top three were the economy (51%), health care (10%) and unemployment (10%). Immigration was mentioned by just 6%, and terrorism (3%), defence/foreign policy (0%), and law and order (4%) were much farther down the list of top issues. The environment/climate change was mentioned by 1% of Conservative voters.• Among Liberal supporters, the top three were the economy (38%), health care (18%) poverty/inequality (13%), followed by climate change (9%).What keeps us awake at night? In this age group, 34.4% of males and 23.4% of females were heavy drinkers (Chart 1).Heavy Drinking, 2016I happen to stumble upon this paper of August 10, 2018, here is a summary of the first three pages.Toronto Sun August 10Fraudsters use bogus University of Waterloo acceptance letters to enter CanadaThe University of Waterloo says it’s frustrated some people are using fake acceptance letters to gain entry into Canada. - David Bebee,Record staffMore than 5,800 international students attended the University of Waterloo last term. - Brent Davis , Record staff1 / 2WATERLOO — Sarbjeet Singh landed in Canada in August 2012, telling the airport border agent he would be studying for his master's degree in engineering at the University of Waterloo the following month. To back up his story, he had a government-issued student visa, and an acceptance letter into one of Canada's most sought after engineering graduate programs. The border agent stamped his paperwork, and waved him through. On the surface, there's nothing remarkable about a young man from India being one of the more than 5,800 international students who come from abroad to study at Waterloo every semester. There was only one problem. The University of Waterloo had never heard of him.Instead, the Canada Border Services Agency allege Singh was part of a sophisticated immigration fraud used to gain illegal entry into Canada.Investigators say Singh had no intention of attending the university, and his behaviour once he arrived was not that of someone planning to study here, according to court records. His Waterloo acceptance letter, used to gain a student visa and eventually a work visa, was fake.Singh was one of 15 people caught in a recent probe by the Canada Border Services Agency, all using fake acceptance letters from the University of Waterloo's engineering program. He was convicted in April under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and is awaiting sentencing. As a foreign national, he could face deportation. Please read some of the comments from the viewers here is on from Jdjje rififd.User-12836266270394052537Paying terrorist Khadr millions of dollars. What are the basic steps to start a blog?

The Basic Steps to Start a $5,000/month Blog That Won't Leave You Bored & ConfusedOhhhhh great…Another article about how to start a blog. I'm sure you're thinking to yourself,“Let me guess—this privileged, Middle-American, white male with seemingly feminine hips is going to give me generic advice on how to build a money-making blog. These tips are going to include how to find hosting, how to name the domain, and how to make money through affiliate links—let's entertain this bozo so we can let him have it in the comments section…”To which I would respond,“Blast! They can see my hips through the computer screen! How did they know that's my insecurity!”After taking a cold shower, I would respond with,“No—that's not at all what I'm going to talk about. I'm going to talk about how I did it my way. I'm also going to provide real-world evidence. And, on top of all that, I'm going to make the entire process exciting. Here goes…”I'm going to take you through the exact basic methodology I used to create my $5,000 a month (minimum) blog. What I think is pretty damn cool (the first non-boring part), is I don't pay a single cent on any advertising. My overall costs are pretty low.Let's get into it…Step 1. Use platforms that hand you an audience on a silver platterMany of us have been there:“Okay, I have this amazing idea… I'm going to write about this thing that I know. Once I get a host and a domain, I'll write up some content, and BOOM, I'll have an audience.”But does it ever work? If you have done the whole domain and host thing, you know getting traffic is by far the hardest part. So why are you trying to pull traffic to your site? That's like trying to find a girlfriend and putting a sign up in the front lawn of your 750 sqft Echo Park apartment saying, “Girlfriend wanted. Apply Inside.”Instead, what you should do, is go out where the potential girlfriends flock:A barA parkA pottery classA CrossFit gymIn other words, you have to go where the potential audience may be.Enter, the blogging platforms:QuoraMediumWhy should you be focusing on these two platforms? Well, because they combine for over 400 million active monthly users. You have the ability to write content within your niche (another term for the topic you write about). The niche you choose could be a number of things:FitnessHealthFoodMake moneyTravelLifestyleFashionThese are just some of the most popular & profitable. So before purchasing a domain and hosting or any of that, make sure you sign up for these two free platforms and start writing. Follow individuals on those platforms who are succeeding (i.e. they constantly produce content, they have substantial follower counts, etc.) within your niche. Try and mirror some of your content after theirs. DEFINITELY REFRAIN FROM PLAGIARISM.Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. Pick people who are interested in what you're interested in.—Russell SimmonsI've been able to do this, and I've been able to amass viewership of my content to over 4 million views and I currently generate anywhere from 100k to 200k views a month (see images):Step 2. Redirect the viewership into entrepreneurship-ownershipAnd then become a poet…Okay, in all seriousness—what does that even mean?Well, when you've started generating traffic, it's great. You start to get internet famousYou start getting random email “pitches”You start to get hits of dopamine every time an article gets high viewsBut really, those are all vanity metrics…What really feels good is when you start generating income! How do you do that? By turning the viewership into entrepreneurship ownership. In other words… redirecting that traffic into an email list. Why do you want to do that? Because for lack of a better phrase—that's how you make the cheddah.Okay, fine—I'll be frank, many of you reading this probably know about Medium and the Payment Partner Program and how it pays you cold, hard cash already. But hey, it's a hustle to constantly be putting out content and chasing the dollar that way. Thousands of people do it—you shouldn't be that person, however.Hubspot notes, when done properly, your email marketing investment pays $38 for every $1 spent—or a 3800% ROI.How do you turn the viewership traffic into an email list?Conduct covert, secret, double-agent reconnaissance missions.“Uhh—what the f*ck does that mean?”Again, turn to the professionals already on the platforms—what are they doing? If you're savvy, you'll notice most of the top content producers always make an opportunity to join a newsletter or something like that. Hell, even the top multinational businesses on the planet do it (see nike.com):If one of the most powerful companies in the world is collecting email addresses—you should be doing it too. Now, a multinational company like Nike will do this with popup ads—but what are you supposed to do as a blogger? You should always include the reader's ability to follow you along with article/content footers. This could be something that offers an opportunity to join a newsletter, or it could offer a "freebie” (a pdf, video module, checklist, etc. that helps the reader solve a specific problem—this is a bit more advanced). To collect the email addresses, you should use an email service provider (ESP). Luckily, many of the email service providers offer a free tier (up to a certain amount of subscribers). Some notable ESPs are:Convertkit (what I use)Mailchimp (they locked me out without explanation—I personally don't recommend)AweberDripThere's of course more—these are probably the top dawgs, however.Okay—so you've started to build your email list, what's next?So glad you asked.Step 3. Use your fancy new list to further provide value to your audienceWhy do you want to become a professional blogger? Is it to get recognition? Maybe. Is it to get praise from friends and family? Perhaps. Is it to find time to work on a hobby? Ehh.The main reason you want to become a professional blogger is so you can work for yourself, create the work that is fulfilling to you, and make the money you know you're worth. That's where we're going to go next. Now that you have an email list, you're going to want to provide the email list with products and services that will help them solve their problems.Think about it—what's the most foundational thing about any business? A business exists to solve problems for a customer-base and make their lives better. In his book, “Copywriting Secrets” Jim Edwards outlines the main reasons why people buy things. Those reasons are because they want to:Make moneySave moneySave timeavoid effortEscape mental or physical painGet more comfortAchieve greater cleanliness or hygiene to attain better healthGain praiseFeel more lovedIncrease popularity or social statusWith your niche, can you create a product or service that adheres to any one (or more) of the above-listed purchase motivations? If so, you're ready to move on.Step 4. Bring home the baconI've probably talked about this 6 trillion times (I know, you're already rolling your eyes). Are you familiar with the eLearning industry? It's an industry expected to reach a total global value of $374.3 billion by 2026. It's essentially the sharing of knowledge through teaching via online technology.Think Teachable, Thinkific, Podia, etc.Creating your courses via those platforms is probably the most basic—meaning you'll be up and running the quickest, however, they cost more than self-hosting on your site via a WordPress plugin like Thrive Apprentice.Oh wait—we weren't going to do the whole WordPress blogging thing…Forget that I said that and go with one of the third-party sites I mentioned.Remember, you're the expert. What are some high-level problems you can help your audience solve? When you've answered that question, you can package that solution into a course that you'll now sell to your audience. This is the route I've taken, see below for a monthly earnings report from one of my courses (mind you I sell two courses and have a membership as well):Now that's a screenshot from my payment processor (thrivecart). Thrivecart is pretty expensive, but you can do this via a cheaper payment processor (I used sendowl). You can see that a few strong days really carried me through the month, however, I only experienced two days with zero sales. I'll take that any day—it's like an online ATM machine.Step 5. Legitimize the blog so Mom stops worrying about youOkay, If your mom is old school Chicago Italian-American like mine—she'll probably never stop worrying. However, now is the time we can finally purchase a domain and host your site via WordPress.I'm not going to go through any steps about choosing a hosting provider and trying to fill in any affiliate links or any of that bull—there's already too much of that out on the internet. What I'm really going to talk about here is, after you do a Google search, and figure out what hosting provider, etc. is right for you, you can legitimize your business by putting your newsletter landing pages and courses on the actual WordPress site. This does a few things for you:It consolidates all of your pages—instead of having courses on Thinkific, landing pages via Convertkit URLs, etc.It makes you more legitimate—good design sells. If you're patch-worked with your site, it can leave site visitors confused and confused visitors don't purchase. It can be a vanity piece you show your aunts and uncles during the holidays so they don't think you're completely crazy. That last one is maybe just for me.The glories of a big Catholic family…I told you this was basic—let's wrap this upI could go on and on when it comes to building and monetizing a blog.Unfortunately (for me), people often lose focus when something gets too complex. If you're one of the few people still reading this—bravo, you're in a small minority that can actually read through an article. Most people only read for a few seconds. What we've done is gone through the basic steps of setting up your blog. I know, the best part about it all is you weren't bored at all!I'm such an entertaining fella…Before I completely run out of self-deprecating humor, let's recap what we've learned:Use platforms that hand you an audience on a silver platterRedirect the viewership into entrepreneurship-ownershipUse your fancy new list to further provide value to your audienceBring home the baconLegitimize the blog so Mom stops worrying about youThat will get you started. And perhaps, at the end of the day—that's what we need more of. We need more people will to get started and take the chance on themselves. We need more people willing to create that Quora or Medium account. We need more people willing to write that article and share their gifts with the world. We need more people willing to create and fewer critics tearing others’ work apart. So maybe the most basic step of all is putting those thoughts on paper (or the screen) and taking a chance. The world needs it, now more than ever.Ready to make more?
