Practicing medicine in United States with a bachelors degree (MBBS) from India?

In order to become a fully licensed physician in the US, foreign medical graduates must not only pass a series of licensing exams, but additionally complete a residency in their chosen speciality. This applies even if the applicant was licensed to practice in his or home country. The process is basically as follows :1) Your friend will complete and pass 3 exams; the USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK (clinical knowledge) and Step 2 CS (clinical skills). The first two are all day computer based exams, the last is a full day of simulated patient encounters, which grades not only medical skills but English profiency and communication.2) After these are passed, he or she can apply to the desired residency via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This is an online system that submits the user's application, personal statement, letters of recommendation, credentials, etc. to those residency programs he or she is interested in attending. For US applicants, our medical school assists with submission of documentation, but for foreign grads, it's handled by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or EFMG. They have a very informative website with the timeline and requirements. See:http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/timeline.html3) After making one's application, the documentation is sent to the programs on a predetermined date in mid-September. At this point, you friend waits. If one or more of the programs to which he or she applied is interested, they will invite him/her for an interview.4) After interviews, the applicant ranks the programs in order of preference on another website managed by the National Resident Matching Program. The residency programs at which the applicant interviewed do the same with all of their applicants. The goal is to be high up enough on someone's list to "match."5) On a day in March, the results of the "Match" are released. If your friend matches, he or she will be notified and will be expected begin residency in June or July.6) He or she will take the USMLE Step 3 sometime during residency. How early this must be done depends on the program.7) Once Step 3 is passed and one year of residency has been completed, you friend can begin applying for a full, unrestricted state medical license.8) At the end of training (which can be anywhere from 3-7 years, longer if a fellowship is desired), he/she will take a final exam to become "board certified" in that specialty. As others have pointed out, it's a VERY competitive process and getting worse as the number of medical schools and graduates have increased, but the number of residency spots did not grow at the same pace.I just saw that the NRMP published the stats for International Graduate Matching. This is an invaluable resource because it can give your friend an objective measure of the scores needed to match by speciality. The link to the report is below.http://www.ecfmg.org/resources/NRMP-ECFMG-Charting-Outcomes-in-the-Match-International-Medical-Graduates-2014.pdfI'm not going to lie; the process is nothing short of long, arduous, and complicated. But I know several people who have done it, so I also know that for some it's achievable.Good luck to your friend!

How can I prepare for SBI PO in 1 month? Is there a good book that would be useful to me?

A fellow probationary officer had posted this for aspirants appearing for SBI PO 2014.He is now pursuing MBA from XLRI.Hope this helps..Prep strategy“Step 1 Gather all the previous year papers/sample papers of the concerned exams you are aiming for... segregate topics from each section and classify each topic as weak/medium/confident , a sample classification would be like thisSBIReasoning 10 que on arrangement medium10 que on syllogism confident5 que on visual reasoning toughMaths 10 que on percentage/calc etc confident10 que on ratio etc mediumEng 12 que on RC confident10 que on Grammar mediumGK 25 que on current affairs(eco, fin, banking, budget etc) tough10 que on comp medium10 que on marketing/banking terms etc mediumfor all those topics which you are confident just solve last year questions from past papers, for tough you would have to work on daily, for medium work on alternate days....for eg i prepared GK current daily, prepared comp and banking occasionally and maths i solved only last year questions and that too started two weeks before the exam....Step 2 Gather the resources for preparing tough and medium topicsi prepared GA/GK from Jagran josh pdf on sbi, monthly issues, wikiand comp, marketing, banking from some books from Upkar publicationsfor maths i would suggest RS Aggarwal, but dont do chapters you are very much confident, do 1st those which u face difficulty and if you dont have time for chap to chap prep , just make notes of concepts, and solve just 10 problems from the excercise for each chap, and then move forward.... for reasoning RS Aggarwal or if you are good just solve past year papers thoroughly, you should be familiar with your approach , for eg when an arrangement based set comes you should be used to drawing and solving, for syllogism u shud b used to drawing venn diagrams , point is for each question in paper u shud know how u attackfor RC u can do 1 excercise, since not more than 30 min can be devoted to english in a paper of 2 hours, you have to increase your reading speed, so you can solve 2 RC daily from any random previous year paper and aim it to do in 6 que in 8 min initially (RC + que) , then reducing it to 6 min to 6 que slowly and then till u can... (we can give more time to RC since VA does not take that much time, if you have problems in reading speed, start reading newspaper and see that your speed increases with time by measuring the time you complete one article...for GK target months/pages of pdf. i used to target half a month or 1/3rd a month (roughly 40 pages) each day and did some 6 months roughly from oct to march... keep a target of some pages taking into account no. of days left, revision, and some day u might not study.. suppose 30 days, 6months , so u can target 1/3 a month = 18 days, 6 days for revision and 4 days perhaps u might have some other work...Step 3 give small timed tests.... whenever you sit with previous year papers dont just solve blindly, say u take up some 2008 ibps paper or anything, say u want to solve a section, say maths, you know during exam you would give say 35 min to that sec(varies from person to person), so for now give 40-45 min, fix the time, solve it and then see your marks, most importantly know post-test how each problem has been solved... do this alternative days for each topic of some previous paper... slowly towards the end when exam approaches, bring it closer to the actual time you are planning..... u can do this exercise for every alternative day (one day maths and English) another day may be just reasoning or maths combined...Step 4 if possible take some mocks from some institutions, i didn take coz i was involved in cat prep, but i have heard mahendra is good, mocks give steadiness to prep, and an instrument to guageTip1) delete FB app from ur phone, in case you have it on ur lappy/machine, when u r preparing, do not log on to FB in between... decide your break times... say after 2 hours sitting, and only then check your fb.... fb is the major distraction so use it only for career, do not indulge much in chatting/updates etc. when u r studying all the things that distract keep them out of reach like TV, cellphone etc.Tip2) anxiety control is an important aspect for clearing govt. exams... try to remain calm and composed, do not take stress, in your leisure time do what reduces stress like going for a walk, listening to music (FB is again to be avoided coz it increases stress)... do meditation for those who become very anxious during real exams...Tip3) never loose hope , govt. exams require more of speed and familiarity than anything else... dont be disheartened, i am an average guy and was in the bottom 20percentile in terms of GPA, and so are many others like me who cleared such exams... if i can , so can all of you !!!all the best ! for any specific thing you can tag me here in the comments....PS: sorry for making the post longPPS: thanks to the group and wishes from the people that i cleared written of both and interview of SBI...”
