No.I continue to be amazed at the number of people who simply have no idea of how voting actually works outside of where they live.I live in NY. You could be sent to jail if caught. That’s the risk. The reward is…one vote cast for whatever candidates you favor. Does that seem like a good risk/reward tradeoff to you? If it’s like mine, there are a number of districts that share a common room. So first you need to know what precinct you’re going to vote in, so you’re going to have to have come up with some street address that the nice person helping people figure out where to vote will recognize and point you to the right table.You’re going to walk up to the table and say “hi” to the nice poll workers. They’re going to ask “what’s your name?” You’re going to have to give them the name of someone registered in that precinct. So you’re going to have had to have figured that out ahead of time, too.Here’s where it gets tricky: not only do you have to know the name of someone who is already registered in the precinct you’ve selected, you have a few other things to worry about:Has that person already voted? What are you going to tell the now-less-friendly poll worker if they look in their record book and say “it says here that you already voted”.Does either of the poll workers know the person you’re claiming to be? That would lead to a different but equally uncomfortable situation.Does anyone else in earshot (because this is conducted in an open room — the fact that you voted isn’t secret, just who you voted for) know the person you’re claiming to be?But you’re in luck. The person you’re pretending to be hasn’t voted, and no one who might hear you knows them. So now all you have to do is…sign your name in the poll record book next to the sample signature from your registration form.
