Can I get into Johns Hopkins with a 3.1 GPA (unweighted) and a 1450 SAT?
I had a 3.3 GPA and a 1470 SAT. I applied Early Decision to Johns Hopkins, knowing full well that I wouldn’t get in. Even though I had some impressive extracurricular activities and a few good AP scores, Hopkins was incredibly competitive and I knew that as wholesome a process as it was, grades and the SAT did matter. Many people advised me to use my ED on a more realistic choice, but Hopkins was my dream school and I knew I had to give it a shot. I presented my activities in the most positive light possible, got some great recommendations from my teachers, and wrote the best essays I possibly could. I got in.Yes, Johns Hopkins is extremely competitive. Yes, 3.3+1470 is somewhat higher than 3.1+1450. And yes, there is a good chance that you will not get in. However, what this process taught me is that it’s never impossible. Hopkins is a school that cares more than anything about accepting students with unique characters and burning passions for their areas of study. If you, like me, are someone who sometimes messed up in your grades during high school but have a devotion to your field and possess a unique perspective -and if you can convey this in your essays- then you certainly have a shot at getting in.If Johns Hopkins is a school you want because of its high status, then move on. You can safely get into a school with a slightly worse but still very impressive ranking. But if your dream school is Hopkins and you know you would be a good match, then ignore any comments on Quora or Prep Scholar telling you you won’t get in, and work on preparing the best application humanly possible. Good luck.
What AP classes will boost my Johns Hopkins application?
JHU is an extremely phenomenal and selective institution in Baltimore, Maryland. The only thing keeping you from being a Hopkin’s student is the 11–12% acceptance rate. Because I just received my acceptance letter last month, I feel qualified to answer this question.Hopkins preaches taking a rigorous course-load, which ultimately means enrolling in as many AP classes as possible to show you can handle an intense load. Every high school is different, and my school mainly offers dual-enrollment college courses with my local community college instead of AP classes. I will present my course-load below.Freshman year: honors algebra 2, honors English 9, honors biology, Spanish 1, world civilization, PE, art, & religionSophomore year: geometry, honors English 10, honors chemistry, Spanish 2, online government, online history, & religionJunior year: pre-calc, English 11 (didn’t want to take AP English), AP chemistry (didn’t take AP exam), college biology, Spanish 3, & religionSenior year: college calc 1 (1st semester), AP calc (2nd semester), college composition 1 (1st semester), literature appreciation (2nd semester), college anatomy, physics, college Spanish, and religionAs you can see, I have challenged myself all four years and have maintained a 4.0/4.0 unweighted GPA.On Hopkin’s website, they say they look for 3 aspects in an applicant: Academic Character, Impact and Initiative, & Personal Contributions Application Information-Undergraduate Admissions-Johns HopkinsIn regards to academic character, they state: “How do you demonstrate your academic passions? What is important to you? To get a good idea of where your academic spirit lies, we’ll look at your transcripts and testing, but also your teacher and counselor recommendations.”In regards to impact and initiative, they state: “Our undergraduates contribute to our campus and our community. We urge students to think about how they can make a difference through service, leadership, and innovation. The admissions committee looks closely at applicants’ extracurricular activities and recommendations to assess commitments outside the classroom.”In regards to personal contributions, they state: “How do you engage with your community—academic, personal, and social? What personal qualities do you possess that would make you a good fit for our campus? We’re looking for students who are eager to follow their interests at the college level and are enthusiastic about joining the campus community.”Don’t forget standardized tests! For the class of 2021: SAT Composite: 1480-1560 (new scale) / ACT: 32-35. Aim for the high-end of those ranges! Personally, I scored on the lower-end of those ranges so don’t fret too much! Get The Facts | Undergraduate Admissions | Johns Hopkins UniversityThe personal essay and Hopkin’s specific essay are vital!Find a way to stick out from the rest of the pack. For me, that was telling my story of battling a spinal cord injury. There you have it! Good luck to you all. If you really want to get into Hopkins, I advise applying early decision like me because your acceptance chances rise to 29%. Don’t forget to show interest through interviewing and visiting campus.I hope you can be just as happy as I was when I received my acceptance letter!
Why does AIIMS Delhi send students to John Hopkins?
AIIMS Delhi does not send their students to Johns Hopkins. What prompted you to ask this is most probably because half a dozen people from AIIMS go to JH every year. That doesnt mean they are sponsored by AIIMS.Our visit to JH is a totally independent one. We have to get all the approvals, tickets, place to stay, visa, etc on our own. All on our own cost.PS. This is what we really do out there :PHowever, due to excellent CV and associated name of AIIMS on the CV (majority of professors in the US know about AIIMS), most/all of the students who apply from AIIMS-D get approved. Not to boast, but I myself got 10–12 approvals, my trip didnt go through though. :(But yes it is a great opportunity to gauge the environment in US, do some good research and get a publication maybe for your USMLE CV.However, AIIMS does sponsor electives of top 2 students of All Proffs to top universities in the US.This answer is regarding a research elective(1–2 months) at JHU, not for permanent admission.I’m adding my comment here as to what has to be in the CV:‘CV me youre the product, theyre the buyer. Toh bech na!See, CV me academic likho, 10th se leke ab tak koi achievements ho, first year ki percentage, any honours in subjects etc. Research experience, koi college ki lab main, or if publication then even better. They like extracurriculars, usme jo ho likhdo, sports, computers, music, etc. If the applicant is from a college like AIIMS, KMC, MAMC they would accept if they have space, mostly. If others have to standout, you need to show something of the above on CV to get the edge. Na bhi ho to application bhejne me kya jaata hai? ;) ‘
